Trailer Park

Whilst listening to my Fleetwood Mac station on Pandora.com, Beth Orton came on with 'Concrete Sky' and my ears honed in on the sound. Although not on Trailer Park, which was her first album, I decided to buy this album anyway from a seller as it was at a give away price. I wasn't disappointed!
Don't be put off with the sound at the opening of track one 'She Cries Your Name' but be prepared to be blown away with 'I Wish I Never Saw The Sunshine.'

This is one of those albums that just grows on you and gets better and better with every listen. Beth Orton has that Judie Tzuke/Susan Vega sound to her voice so if you like either of these vocalists then this CD could be right up your street. If you've never heard of her, then you soon will. If you have heard of her, then you probably won't be reading this and have the CD already!

Leave this one in the Trailer Park

I’m not a huge Beth Orton fan and bought this CD on eBay after recommendation from the great Antony Hegarty of Antony and the Johnsons fame after he made reference to her on a DVD that I have. I have to say there are some well-played laid-back tunes with “I With Never Saw The Sunshine” being the best by far. But overall it’s a rather disappointing album and if you’re looking for an introduction you’re better off buying Central Reservation (which I bought at the same time) instead.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Some good, some indifferent.

She has an unusual voice that you either like - or hate! Some songs are very strong and some seem without purpose, like 'fillers' and some some of the effects sound a bit dated already. I struggled to sit down and listen to this for long. Fine for the background though. 'Good, but could do better'.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

An amazing album

"And there's a wasteland in your soul The burned out trees will leave you cold"
Amazing lyrics, and that distinctive wailing of the opening track on the album (She cries your name) sends a shiver a up my spine. This track is stunning. The rest of the album has a lot to live up to with such a powerful opener.

AND....

.......

It doesn't disappoint.

This is easily one of the best albums I have bought. Beth Orton has released several good albums, this one in my oppinion is amongst the best although I do like daybreaker alot. She has featured with other artists including the Chemical Brothers.

It is worth finding a few sites (e.g. amazon) who stream samples of tracks to hear for yourself just how great this album sounds.
