An RPG for those who don't like RPG-style gameplay

The typical RPG to me seems a little stale in terms of gameplay. I mean most of the time you just select attack or magic and then cast it, but it requires very little skill or strategy. Hell, you might as well put your characters on autopilot in most situations.
That's why the Baldur's Gate series on the consoles is so good. Now don't confuse these with the PC games of the same name because the gameplay on the PC games is way, way different than it is here.
In Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance you complete quests, fight enemies and equip your character with new weapons and armor that you buy from merchants. In this game you can use a variety of weapons, depending on the character you choose from the outset, a man, an elf, or a dwarf. They all have different fighting characteristics, types of armor they can use, and different spells. The spells in this game are crazy awesome.
That being said it does take a while to get used to handling enemies that can easily gang up on you if you're not careful. Your button presses either swing your weapon or fire your bow and arrow(which you have to purchase). At the beginning of the game you've been robbed by thieves who've taken most of your gold and it's up to you to find some work and investigate the mysteries in Baldur's gate.
This game is far from a cake walk, but at least it's more action oriented. An important thing to keep in mind is to try and keep your map on screen at all times so at least you can keep track of where you are going.
The game rewards you with some amazing and epic boss battles though(which reward you in turn with gold and experience when beating them). If you've ever played Dungeons and Dragons, you fight against a giant sized floating Beholder who will try and bite you in half, and a Frost Dragon who can do the same, or easily freeze you.

Early 2000's RPG Nostalgia in a Bite Size Package

I'd never played this game when it came out, but having grown up with many similar games (i.e. Runescape), this was a nice foray into that nostalgia without needing to commit oh so many hours.

Great game with hours of fun!

This game NEVER gets old! I just wish they had made more than two of them! I played the Champions of Norrath and really enjoyed those as well!

Must play if you're a fan of the genre.

Only complaint is that could've made the game longer. However it's still a great game.

Impressed Again

The guys who put together the Baldur's Gate series of games never fail to impress me with their attention to detail and fine-tuned products. This is, like the games in the series that came before it, a wonderful sweeping adventure, full of interesting quests, strange critters, and a large variety of magic items and equipment.

The graphics are very nice, and the play style is exactly what one who had played the previous games would expect. Overall, the only flaw I could possibly find is the way the characters aren't balanced - some are good in the beginning levels, some at the end - but this is a characteristic trait of Advanced Dungeons and Dragons games (the wizard is always a wimp at the beginning and middle levels, and then extremely powerful at the end).

Set in Faerun, in the Forgotten Realms setting, the story is well-situated within the lore of the novels and D&D source books. And as this franchise continues to sell well, you will come to recognize many similarities between this game and the others in the series. However, they still manage to make this game feel fresh, new, and completely original.

Flawless.

This game is the most amazing game ever created.
In complete honesty, I am purchasing a second copy right now (in case I misplace the original).
More than worth it's weigth in gold, silver, dynamite, and uranium combined.

I simply cannot express how intensely perfect this game is.
A week of non-stop playing was not enough, so I played for two.

The game never really ends because it is possible to import/export characters into completely new games and beat it again, faster, and better every time.
