Atlantis: The Lost Empire (VHS, 2002)

An Underrated Disney Classic

"Atlantis: The Lost Empire" is an underrated Disney classic that deserves so much more love and attention. The animation is gorgeous with beautiful visuals and a stunning color pallet. The soundtrack was composed by the amazing James Newton Howard. The characters are an absolute delight and they are truly the heart of the movie. Each person has a unique (and often hilarious) personality and background. "Atlantis" has some of Disney's most bad ass female characters and it's sad that people have "forgotten" these amazing women. One of the characters is a Princess, yet Disney doesn't count her in the Disney Princess franchise. Helga is one of my favorite Disney women of all time' she's so sexy and a total bad ass! The main character Milo Thatch (voiced by the amazing Michael J. Fox) is very charming and likable. The comedy is hilarious (and often rather adult) with some of my favorite jokes from a Disney movie. While the plot isn't really anything new and original (it's basically Disney's "Pocahontas" meets James Camron's "Avatar"), the characters and visuals are what makes the movie such an entertaining, funny, and beautiful masterpiece.
