A vulnerable teenager succumbs to the lifestyle of his grandmother and uncles with chaos ensuing!
As a retired school counselor, I am especially sensitive to depictions of family dysfunction. Animal Kingdom is the epitome of such brokenness at the extreme. When a young high school kid loses his mom to a drug overdose, he goes to live with his grandmother and uncles. Talking about living with brokenness!! Unfortunately, he then begins to incorporate that into his own young life. Chaos ensues!
The acting is superb in this series - it's almost too good and too realistic. While the criminal action is constant throughout the series and quite creative, so is the expression of unlimited sexual encounters. How this series was allowed to air during prime time on TNT is beyond my understanding. Still, the creative "capers" that ensue throughout the series have captured my attention. Unique Series
Even though I had watched the entire first season of animal kingdom when it was aired, I was drawn to revisit these characters. A messed up crime family with whom you can't really sympathize with any. But the characters are so individual, well written and acted; it is a can't miss series. I liked the TV show so much I ordered the Australian movie the series was based on. It was a disappointment and if I had seen it first I probably would not have watched the series. Awesome story line and good looking cast of characters. Just like the friends I hung out with on Cocoa Beach Florida. My kind of TV series.

Compelling...surprises come out of nowhere. So many shows are so, so predictable. I love not knowing what will happen next!.
