Agatha Christies Marple: The Geraldine McEwan Collection (DVD, 2010)

Excellent, but wish they had subtitles.

I love the Miss Marple series and bring them out whenever I want to not worry about all the vulgarities that our present Hollywood feels we must have to make a show "entertaining." Some of these are better than others in their directing and dialogue, but it always comes together in the end. I really wish this set offered subtitles like some of the other series do, because I hate missing a clue when someone is whispering or mumbling. I really recommend this set and i especially love Geraldine McEwen as Miss Marple. Love her outfits and those adorable hats!!Vollständige Rezension lesen

Great Series With A Great "Miss Marple" Taking The Lead

I've read all of the Agatha Christie books and short stories she wrote and had very definite ideas as to how a few of her recurring characters should be. Among them is the character "Miss Marple". There have been a few iterations of "Miss Marple" in a TV series but for me, the better ones were the ones in the series that ran from 2004-2013. Some people have had problems with not staying completely true to the books but there is a lot in the books that they have to fit into 90 minutes so things get changed. Interestingly enough, a few episodes weren't really a "Miss Marple" story but they made a few changes and included her anyway.

The production values are good but don't expect to see a whole lot familiar to most Americans...this is a very British show which, to me, only added to each episode. As you watch them you'll notice actors that have made their mark in other shows like "Downton Abbey", Marvel Cinematic Universe, and many other hit movies.

We have the "Miss Marple" series starring Joan Hickson but for my money, I'm glad we also got these because these have turned out to be our favorite. At first you may think that Ms. McEwan plays her as an elderly woman that may be a bit flighty but I assure you...she proves herself to be anything but. She really did a brilliant job with playing "Miss Marple".

One note about this series...from 2004 - 2007 Geraldine McEwan played "Miss Marple" but after the 3rd season she retired and Julia McKenzie took over the role for 3 more seasons so if you want the whole series you'll also need to look for those.

Oh...and as for not staying true to the original stories Ms. Christie wrote? Didn't bother me a bit because they stayed true enough to be approved by the Christie Estate and the changes were for the better.Vollständige Rezension lesen

Best Miss Marple on film

I loved this series. Geraldine McEwan makes the best Miss Marple ever. She portrays the character much closer to the books than any other actress, though the producers took liberties with the stories themselves. McEwen's Miss Marple is a Delight

Geraldine McEwan is a delightful Miss Marple in these engrossing Against Christie mysteries. Impeccable period detail and such marvelous actors as Joanna Lumley, Timothy Dalton, and Claire Bloom make each episode wonderfully entertaining.
