After a long hiatus, R.E.M. is back and rocking

Every artist needs a little time away from the spotlight so they can take a breath and prepare themselves to make a great and worthy comeback. This is what these three fine young men from Athens, GA did and the final product they delivered after a hiatus of four years couldn't be better. "Accelerate" is a subtle mix of old school R.E.M. from the IRS years to the mainstream appeal from Warner Bros. years. The CD-only version is relatively short (running 35 minutes or so only) and has great tunes. Michael's singing style is more passionate than ever. The band still plays consistently and vigorously. This is a top release for the Alternative Rock genre this year. Yes, they're mainstream for a while, but still makes alternative sound. Thanks God.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

R.E.M. are back!!! :)

It has been a long time since I've opened my wallet for a new R.E.M. album, but it was worth waiting for...well as much as it could have been.

This is R.E.M. of old, the passion, the rock and the cynical views that made Green such a classic are all here again. Michael shows his vocal range on this album, so much so that while listening to the first track I almost ejected the c.d. to see if it was actually R.E.M. Michael's recognizable voice is evident from track 2 onwards, up until the last track that leaves the listener both amused and very satisfied.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

R.E.M. is back in style -- ACCELERATE delivers!

R.E.M. is back with a long-awaited album that delivers more than expected and you won't be disappointed. If you like the R.E.M. from the 80s and 90s, this album is for you. A few tunes that are reminiscent of "Automatic for the People" and a few that remind one of the "Green" era. Best of all, because of the new Producer (who also produced U2's last album) almost every song is singable and drums-driven... if you've heard their last 2 albums, you know what I mean... the lack of drums and singable songs disappointed listeners. ACCELERATE IS GREAT! GO GET IT!Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Amazing release by R.E.M.

This is deffinetally one of my favorite R.E.M. releases. It's not like their work following the drummer's departure, being that it doesn't sound forced and hard on them to write. It's fast and rockin, and it has it's deep moments, as well as some sorta funny moments, like on Horse to Water. This is a deffintive hard rock album. It's awesome. Reccomended to anyone!Vollständige Rezension lesen...

R.E.M.arkable

Since I've been following R.E.M. now for almost 20 years, I was hoping their new album would return to the "rocker" sound of the mid 90's. I am pleased to report that the album is a must listen and is loud, fast and in your face. It flows very nicely and quickly (32 mins) and most songs catch on only after one listen. Hollow man is my favorite. (so far) Any R.E.M. fan will find this new album to be very enjoyable. Some of the songs evoke their early 80's live show energy.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

REM goes back to its roots with this album

Buck, Mills and Stipe have gone back to the sounds of their college band days. Michael Stipe's vocals are at their very best; Haunting and beautiful. Hollow Man is one of my favorites, but think the entire album flows masterfully from song to song. The lyrics are classic REM. Peter Bucks guitar riffs are incredible and Mike Mills back up vocals are pure genius. All in all, true REM fans will not be disappointed.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

R.E.M. are back.

Well ever since Bill Berry left the band, there has been a feeling that something is missing. They started to change their sound (UP), trying to go back to their roots (Reveal)but until now, no good album has been produced. Accelerate is a return to form. Comparable to their "Monster" album it has better songs and much less throwaways. Recommended.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Best REM Disc in Years

The album flows well between songs and keep a solid, driving beat throughout. Stipe's vocals are solid as usual, and the album is a bit less political than there norm, giving the 11 songs more of a fun feel. Best tracks include: Living Well...Accelerate and I'm Gonna DJ.Vollständige Rezension lesen...
