King Hu set new standards in Chinese cinema in general and Martial Arts cinema in particular, and perhaps because of him, we have "Crouching Tiger", "Hero", "House of flying daggers", etc. Zhang Zimou freely acknowledges King Hu's influence and artistry. If you are at all a student of, or merely an enthusiast for the history and development of Chinese Cinema, the this is a film you certainly need to know. Tremendous characters, a deep plot with twists, humor, drama and stunts - and more than that - a spiritual dimension.
