Alpha Centauri is Sid Meirer's masterpiece. It is the must have turn based strategy game. It might be the last PC game you'll need to own. The differing factions are wholly unique. You'll want to play and master the game with each faction and each method of dominance. The military units are creatively new along with their weaponry. In addition military units are customizable - you may prototype and develop your own units comprised of various weaponry to meet your individual needs. The concept of barbarians has been replaced with the native lifeforms which can also be mastered to augment your military. A Stunning God-Game

Alpha Centauri is a sequel to Civilisation II, and in this respect, the graphics are quite dated from our modern perspective. And yet.... Alpha Centauri is one of the few computer games to actively work on a story, on philosophy and genre at the same time. The player is taken to the world of 2100, where a small group of colonists ust managed to escape the wastes of an apocalyptic earth, on a ship to the next Star system, Alpha Centauri.
But the intricacy starts there: the player gets to choose from seven unique factions, all with (sometimes too) believable, realistic ideologies, and guide their faction's destiny, taking on the guise of one of the charismatic leaders in the game. There is technological advance to be seen through, which leads humanity's survivors to the very peaks of progress, to transcendence and immortality themselves, but there is also a contest to be won against the other factions, as rivalries over faction ideologies break loose. And then there is the Planet itself. Most background stories of computer games are barely sufficient to keep the setting interesting and believable, some do not even achieve that. But Alpha Centauri's setting shows true creativtity and even genius, when building a complex, realistic world of alien lifeforms and planetary consciousness, all set alongside regular quips ranging from Aristotle to Zarathustra, showing the philosophical dimensions that humanity has opened. This game is a stand-alone. Civilization In Space...

I was looking for a civilization type game and I ran across Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri. It plays very similar to the first civilization with a a deeper amount of unit types and civ advances. The basic story is that you are one of 7 factions that left earth on a colonization mission to alpha centauri. There's a problem with the ship and you are awaken early and all 7 factions leave in seperate escape pods. You begin your new civilization and explore the planet. Eventually you run into the other factions and choose to live in peace or go to war. There is a native lifeform to the planet that tries to control the growth of your colony as well. The "Mars" Version of Civilization II

Everyone has to remember playing Sid Meier's Civilization II, where you can create your own empire, build world wonders, even fight off random Barbarians.

Alpha Centauri takes the CivilizationII engine and creates it on an Alien like platform, where there are different units, advisors, etc.

If you like Civilization II i would recommend this game, i remember playing this game years ago, and over time lost it, I remembered the game when a couple of people were chatting about it online so i decided to buy it.

Glad to have it. I've been playing this game for years and my old disc was just plain worn out. Nice to be back in action.

They don't make 'email like they used to.

I've only ever played the demo, but my little brother took great interest in the game so I decided to buy him the full version. Overall an excellent thinking man's game, an oldie but a goodie. Especially in today's society, as good an anti-drug as any other.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Great game, I played for hours and hours

For an older strategy game, this one was very cool. I liked the way the tech tree worked, and that you could steal technologies from others. I still have this game and plan to play it again soon, after I finish some other games that I am playing now.
