These stories are so very well done and a brilliant take on timeless fairy tales. It is so captivating for all generations. I watched these when I was younger and have so many fond memories from doing so. Now my children love them and are creating memories of their own! They don't make 'em like this anymore

One of the ultimate all-time Jim Henson classics. I loved it as a kid - and still enjoy it now as a parent. John Hurt is fantastic (as always). Each of the stories have a moral. I love that MY kids enjoy it as well.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Jim Henson's storyteller

This is an amazing DVD. My family has been enjoying the stories. I highly recommend purchasing this for anyone who is a fan of the Labyrinth or the Dark Crystal.

An almost forgotten gem

Somehow, I'd never heard of this fantastic collection of short stories by the legendary Jim Henson. I stumbled onto the trailer by accident one day while watching Labyrinth. Intrigued by the premise of European folktales brought to life through the magic of Jim Henson's fantastic creature shop, I quickly hopped online to find a copy. Despite it being out of print I managed to find a copy for a reasonable price. I am glad I did because the series is nothing short of outstanding. Each episode is a self contained story (a la Twilight Zone) told by the great John Hurt who plays the titular storyteller. He is spellbinding in this role as his words literally spring to life through puppetry and some surprisingly good special effects. A word of warning: these stories are aimed at older children and teens as they are considerably more grim than much of the candy coated children's fare of today. I'd recommend parents watch this one with their kids to help explain the deeper meanings of the stories and aliviate any fear they may experience from the monsters or intense bits. It's a solid PG show content. Thus, if you like Labyrinth or The Dark Crystal or just want to expose your kids to something deeper and more mature, this show is a no brainer and you should try to hunt down a copy. Happy watching.

Perfect for teachers, students, family, etc.

Just wanted a copy for my home. I watched them years ago and was afraid they were gone for good. They all are great!

I bought this in a moment of nostalga after reading an interview with John Hurt.

I'm so glad I did The Storyteller is a wonderful and engaging way to breathe new life into old folklore for young and old alike. Produced by the Jim Henderson of Sesame Street fame, it's real old-fashioned family entertainment given a new lease of life. A mixure of light hearted humour and excellent dialogue,(John Hurt is an excellent narrator) I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys fire side gatherings, bed-time stories, and a tale with a moral at the end.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Watch it over and over and over again

This is an amazing collection of storytelling. I have always loved the story of "stone soup" and have told it many times... Watching this rendition by 'Adult' muppets of many 'tales' from different countries is absolutely fabulous.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Great Series

Henson's Storyteller series goes way beyond Muppets. Wonderfully engaging, a little scary but the hero always comes out in the end.

An excellent series of stories by the Jim Henson Workshop. New fairy tales - not the usual stories. One may be too scary for children - the Soldier and Death - but the rest are great.
