Good functionality at a reasonable price, but limited lifespan
I have returned to buy two more of the ESR timers which replace identical items bought in 2021 and 2023, one of which in turn replaced one bought in 2020. I use them to switch heated towel rails in the summer months when the central heating is off, so not pushing the switching components to their limit.
When new these timers work very well and are easy to set and adjust, but the internal gearing being of plastic construction, does wear out and I now see them as a consumable item. I have tried electronic timers at double the price which only lasted 13 to 15 months due to electronic component failure, so no advantage over the more economical ESR mechanical timers which eventually fail when the internal gearing jams due to wear.
