If you have some experience of soldering...

... and your frustration is enough to motivate you... Buy one. If you're a really heavy user, buy two. With luck your device won't be obsolete by the time the first replacement has worn out, and you'll have learned how easy it is to swap this usb port the first time, so the second time will be a real breeze. Please note I write as a keen enthusiast, not as a techie with a sophisticated soldering station. This review isn't for that lot, it's to encourage the have-a-go type like me. Basically if you're confident enough to disconnect the battery and extract the mainboard the rest is easy. *Cough*utube*cough* The A10-70 usb port sits on a little board of its own, which is attached to the main board. This arrangement means it's relatively clear of other components that could be vulnerable. I was able to swap this out with my knackered old soldering iron and some solder-sucking copper braid to clean the site. If you use a fine tip, you can clean out the leg holes easily. The replacement fitted perfectly. It was a little tricky soldering the terminals down with my 40-year old iron and its manky tip, but I can tell you it's possible! A new fine tip would have made it even easier. I used a flux "pen" to keep everything clean. In case you didn't know, there are different kinds, I used a basic rosin type. You might do some research, I reckon fluxing is probably the most important bit of this process but there's no room here to go into it.

I used a very small blade to scratch away any spatter from between the power/data pins. This probably wasn't necessary but my OCD got the better of me. A magnifier helped, my ancient eyeballs are a bit past examining gaps this tiny without one. Popped the board back in, tested to see if the tablet lit up, connected to a PC, "folders" showed up! Woohoo! Normal functioning restored for under 3 quid! IMHO these replacement ports are as good as you'll get, bearing in mind the general design of micro usb ports means they're all not super durable. If you've got this far reading this, good luck with your repair, I hope it goes as easy as mine.

Not much use unless you can solder small components.

This connector is no good unless you can solder it to the small circuit board, having removed the old one first. I would suggest you get the complete port which comes with new circuit board which is then very simple to fit.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Nice replacement part for a phone or tablet

Great product, good value. Fitting is not the easiest unless you have some reasonable experience with a decent soldering iron.
