RAID works great, battery does not
Works great in my HP Z420, able to get a RAID 5 set up no problem. Unfortunately the battery is not functioning whatsoever. It is very much dead and bulging. The ROM menu reports that the battery has failed and needs replaced. So I'm not sure how their testing works, but clearly not all issues are identified. Great RAID controller
Being familiar with the P410 I can recommend it to those who may be building a home NAS or other server and want RAID capabilities supporting a lot of drives. This is an HP product and I have only tried it on HP server hardware so I can't say how it works on other platforms. The controller supports two SAS channels so that you can have up to eight hard drives connected to it and it works with either SAS or SATA drives. Configuration is easy using either the configuration ROM setup during boot up or the Array Configuration Utility from a desktop application available from HP. A good controller, but in a simple desktop PC it is unusable unfortunately
I know this controller, it is a older model, we use them in Gen6 hp servers at my working place. I wanted one to use one at home in a PC, but I would have never thought that their usability is limited for servers... Great addition to homelab server
Works in ESXi 6.7 without much issue. Ideally meant for support HP branded servers, but also works in HP branded workstation (z420) after a BIOS settings change.

Great RAID controller for dirt cheap
Valuable upgrade for my HP Microserver Gen8 for very cheap.
Supports SAS 6Gbps and SATA 3 Gbps.
Still supported under ESX 7.0.
