Much needed upgrade for old equipment

I have been able to purchase this RAM at two prices, one was a very low second hand price and the other a retailer's list price - both perform the same and are installed in the same device, so that may concern some purchasing for what is essentially an old machine being given it's last ever upgrade. It does however perform as expected either way, so price is something you just have to swallow and then make good on. In so saying the IBM Thinkpad 600 may not see all the installed RAM and leave you wondering if it's in fact worth it as the full 256Mb potential is not realised, but I was trying for full Unicode support where Windows Me is the furthest I can push the hardware with the MS family platform and it has no such capability. So I was trying LINUX and despite not being able to easily configure for the hardware graphics capability a Red Hat 9 install found and properly set up the RAM. I have since removed the RH9 installation and moved to another 'flavour' with full 1024px resolution and what lets me use the gamut of characters, and in so doing I have resurrected a valued laptop for continued use despite it's considerable age.

It's no mean feat - some would be deterred by the effort involved, but if you have just document editing tasks in mind when you think of where and when you will use such a device, you could save the haul of moving another newer system - or being leashed at the wall where a desktop system is plugged in and it really comes into it's own - considering upgrades like this is therefore quite economical and helps spread your resources so that the proverbial eggs aren't all in one basket...
