Orphan Train
This book is a hard one to put down. Riveting story about a young orphaned immigrant girl who is shuffled about and in very old age meets a girl who suffers almost parallel experiences of her own. A very thought provoking story about similar situations in different generations.Vollständige Rezension lesen

Orphan Train
Very, very interesting. I did not know about this practice and while it was necessary at that time, it is still disturbing to read about today. It was not only fascinating, but enlightening at the same time. I commiserated with the main person and am still disturbed about all that she had to endure. Loved the ending. Quite a wonderful surprise. Great work. Thank youVollständige Rezension lesen

compelling story line
I couldn't put this down once I began.... The story does an excellent job telling of the orphan trains both from the perspectives of the orphans' lives back then and their descendants. Many books forget to mention that the future generations were impacted by those adopted and un-adopted orphans. I also liked the book's ties to the present day foster care system. Vivian and Molly's stories weren't so very different, even though they were generations apart. I hope my book club adds this one to our list.Vollständige Rezension lesen

Great value, and an amazing book.
The price for this book was great, and it is in good condition. The story is great. It is sad, and it shows a time period in US history that most people don’t know about.

DON'T MISS OUT ON THIS EXCEPTIONAL HISTORICAL NOVEL
Kline's book "Orphan Train" is an exceptionally well-written historical fiction novel about a part of U.S. history most Americans are unaware. I did not know that over a period of 30 years over 200,000 children were taken out of NYC to the midwest - Minnesota, Kansas, Iowa - to be "adopted". Some children fortunately landed in great loving homes, others were placed in hard labor or sweat shops. The book pulls together the story of the orphan train children of the late 1800's and early 1900's (through 1929) with the foster care children of today. It is a well-documented novel that I recommend without hesitation. When you start the book, be prepared to be engrossed until the final page. The end notes with her resources are quite interesting AND there are superb book discussion questions at the close. Purchase and know you will be glad you spent the money and time reading.Vollständige Rezension lesen

Great Reading!
I loved this novel. I read it twice because it was so good. Very compelling, especially that it is based on a period of American history that was not so pleasant. This was very well written too.

Interesting and informative
I had never heard of the Orphan Trains. This book followed some of the children who rode these to their new lives...some better than others.
