Ping Cushin - The Tale Begins Here!
The first Ping Cushin I bought came with a bag full of old forged MacGregor tomato stakes from a CA neighbors garage sale, $100 back in 1985. It was my "starter" set that created the Golf Monster (currently 14 hcp.) I am today. That putter is now in play in a bag I keep at the condo in Mexico. I bought a second Cushin, same 34" double bend shaft on E Bay 2 years ago so that I could have a back-up for the original: The old shaft had run its useful life, so I now have 2 with the later one in my upstate NY bag. Long ago it became impractical to carry the same bag back and forth by plane so I just this year duplicated my bag irons (Callaway x-12 96 Firm), including putter(s)(Cushin and 2i). Different driver and fairway woods, though. Read some of my OTHER REVIEWS. The CUSHIN is a classic design. It's simple, understated, very well balanced and a little on the homely side as soft bronze tends to get nicked up. They have that old-age patina some Ping sellers like to bankroll on...but enough about the make-up job. These heads drop some serious putts long and short and they turn some heads on the putting green even though they are still among the cheaper vintage Pings to find that are any good to use. The sight line is almost non-existent, just a narrow scribe struck on the top edge that I've improved with bright green enamel to help with line-up. Something I've noticed about both is that the scribe line isn't the exact dead-on sweet spot. That is found just barely inside that line and the feel is very different as in more solid and seems to hold the putt's line better. You'll just have to putt one for yourself. The Cushin is a super mid-to-long putt maker as the head is weighted well both heel and toe. It's slotted and rings like the namesake when struck sweet, which is what gets the attention on the green. This is no light-weight like the original Anser, a basically worthless (outside of 12')light-headed, anemic putter. Bought one, tried it and I'm going to peddle it on EBAY! Inside of 12' the Cushin is deadly straight and true, it's primary attribute. I have one gripped with the PRO ONLY by Golf Pride, a slender, slick-feeling and dandy little handful that I've always liked with this head, I'm on # 3 replacement now, and the other with a WINN bright lime-green AVS Ping model because I love that TACKY FEEL and the tacky, in -your-face color, too! Keeping the original grips on the older Pings is a lot of humbug unless you just like to show 'em, not play 'em, and what was ever SHOWY about cracked, rock-hard and gone-grey grips? Other Putters in Play: PING Anser 2i, 35" heel shafted. Read my review. PING Craz-e, 35" heel shafted. The Queen has that one. What a sweet stick that is, but my bag's pretty crowded with 1-3-4-7-9 all headcovered and 4-SW, no room for that huge head! Teardrop TD19 roll-faced on 35", a cheapie mallet I found leaning against a dumpster which I leave in the back of the Jeep to putt the odd road-side public track green spotted when out Mom-and-Pop cruising, typically on the way to the grandson's Little League away games and the "just going out for the paper, dear" 9 hole/1 ball speedputt on the green in front of my local muni GC down the street! Sweet little putter and a heavy hitter but too ugly to put in the bag.(:- )

Ping 2i - Old Legend Lives On!
I'm a middle-aged bogie golfer, lowest ever handicap: 12. I'd been using a Ping Cushin (and its twin in a second bag at my 2nd home in Mexico) for over 6 years. Simple, no graphics, no insert, just bronze. The shaft pitted out so I took it apart to discover a hidden steel bearing deep in the hosel / putter shaft port and more to the repair than just epoxying in a new shaft with a new grip as I had thought. So I bought a MINT Ping Anser 2i with headcover from Play It Again Sports for $32, 35" shaft, because I liked the balance and head shape and that it had a slightly heavier head than the Cushin, which had begun to leave the longer putts short lately. The insert face was nothing new-I'd hit some Odyssey 2 Balls, I also own a 35" mallet "Drambuie" presentation putter, I'd hit other "vintage" synthetic-faced putters over the years and liked the feel but missed the "ping" of my old Cushins. I was a little nervous about the steel lower edge below that insert "blading" the putt if the stroke was a little too high and discovered that there is immediate feedback when that happens, a good thing! I'm now used to the loss of the "ping" as it's been replaced quickly by the sound of a lot of short, medium and long putts dropping into the cup and folks, that's not fiction. After years with the same putter, no matter what it is, a reasonably consistent golf player is going to drop lots of putts of every range into the cup and in increasing number. The tough part is getting used to the new line-up, the new feel and balance and swing weight of a NEW putter. In this case I had absolutely no problems - that Anser 2i went to work as if there were no tomorrow. It's that PING Thing, I'm telling you. It's the same for the Cushin as the 2i as the Ping Craz-e, which I also like and have used 4 times in rounds (my wife owns it)at my usual local course here in the US (Colonie, NY).My opinion is that there is a common element in Ping putters that once you become familiar with or become a fan of Ping putters they will generally work for you, given the same style, as in BLADE or MALLET. The other issue is about practice, how often you play and how focused you are. Standing on the green over a putt is where there is the very least amount of room for casual swing thoughts and I think that the Ping 2i is a putter that rewards good mechanics and focus without having to think about the tool itself. This one I sole behind the ball, step into the shot, peep the hole and return to the ball, tap and shoot. That 2i lines itself up without any tweaking or twitching, I swear. There's a meaty little slap of a sound but no rubbery trampoline feel. It just goes off in a forthright, speedy and true fashion, no hops, darn little skid and end-over-end. What's to Like: You gotta like the $30 to $60 prices on the standard and belly config. Anser 2i on EBay and in the used club joints against what was retail back in The Day for a premium putter, still top-of-line quality. (Cushins go cheaper than $12 and $60, too, so look hard before you buy and study the shafts- there were several diff. configs avail.) What's Not So Hot: Behind the see-through face insert is an ad for PING as large as the etched and black-filled one on the back. If you are not a fan of blatant marketing and can't handle that then go elsewhere, get a different model or get over it. The Anser 2i is worth being in the bag! My Drambuie putter is as gaudy as Turkish wedding barge but I got used to it.

PING G2 7 wood - Little Stick, Big Rewards!
My PING G2 7 wood on TFC100 stiff graphite came used from an E Bay win ($74) and in not as good condition as every other club or set I've bought there for myself, The Queen and our 12 yr. old grandson. At first glance I was intending to send it back to that E Bay outfit in California who sold it as an 8 of 10 with its dull and scratched crown, paint chips and sand-blasted face right after pounding a few angry balls at the range...and now, 3 months later it's still in my #1 bag along with my EBAY-bought (not from those guys) Nike Ignite 1-3-4-9 woods, snappy and shiny looking as they are. (Check my other reviews) I put the bench buffer to work over a lunch break and fixed the face and some of the crown, re-gripped it, furniture-polished the shaft and it is no longer quite as disreputable looking. In fact, my grandson is eyeing it and he soon shall receive, when my Ignite 7 wood arrives next week! My first and lasting impression is that I might like the club better with a regular shaft. My swing speed is currently 106-110 with this club when I'm swinging well. The ringtone and high, hot, flat-top flight off the face is pure PING wood (I've hit a few Ping woods over 12 years, believe me) and I get more distance airmail by 15 yd and seem to get a much longer roll (+/- 8-10 yd) on most shots when compared to my Callaway Warbird Heavenly 7, a club I've hit for 3 years now and still love dearly. The Queen has one of those, too, and that's her go-to club on the 140-150 yd approach. I'm spanking this Ping 7 on those little 170 -190yd 2nd shots into a big green and liking the results a lot. You will, too. What I Like: Head shape, fantastic half-moon line-up design. This club is LONG when well struck. I can work this club left, right and straight easily: it does respond to good swing fundamentals with no surprises. Distance: Anywhere from 160yd on a 3/4 punch to a 210yd full-out smokin' rip from a ball-sittin'-tall lie. Fantastic for gouging it LONG out of the hay (1"-2.5" stuff)and not bad off the thin. It's light feeling from the sand but they come out flying nonetheless... What I Don't Like: The PING TFC100 stiff is like a fire poker in the waggle and on the strike which is why I'd prefer the Regular shaft. I have stiff graphite irons and a couple of stiff drivers so it's not that. I'm now used to the flex and feel of the regular shafts in my other (Nike) fairway woods so maybe my opinion isn't valid. The grandson clobbers the heck out of it as if born to it and The Mrs. doesn't seem to mind it, though she's kept her Callaway Heavenly 7 in the bag. She hits the same Ping G2L 3 wood off the tee and from the fairway and would like it if I'd buy her some more Pings. This club doesn't work for me chipping from just off the green. Head's too light-feeling, shaft's too stiff but that's not why I bought this wood. Cute little blue and white headcover shape and design, you think? NOT!!! Darn thing's always cocked and about to pop off when I'm on the move. I have a Taylor 2.5 Tour carry Bag on a 3 wheeler (put a block of stiff foam between the foot activator and bag bottom, works great,no busted hardware to fix later, no barrel-rolling nonsense either!) so I can see that cover making its getaway right in front of me. Hey, put a sock on it, you PINGSTERS!!!! My grandson's liable to lose the darn thing right off anyway but there's a plastic bag full of odd covers including an AFLAC goose in the garage for him to use!
