Ebike brake upgrade
I converted a bike with Avid BB7 185mm brakes to a 35MPH Ebike. Metal brake pads are what down hill racers on their fast heavy bikes have been using. You must clean the rotors of the old brake pad material or they will grab. I ended up swapping on another rotor and the grabbing stopped. These metal pads make more sound than the older ones which were silent. That's the trade off for metal to metal braking.They also work well in the rain. I feel confident that if I have to stop this heavy bike from high speed the brakes won't let me down. 1 star off for the sound. BB7s are good brakes to start with and most riders won't need these. But if you do they work well.
Cable brakes won't spring a leak if the brake lever is pulled with the wheel off. They won't boil the fluid under repeated braking. They don't adjust themselves though. These have the reputation of lasting 5x times as long. That means 1/5 as many adjustments. Only time will tell.

Better stuff out there for the price
I had Avid BB7s on the bike. The TRP 2 "piston" design looked better. I really wanted to like these. BUT
Compared to BB7s
Out of the box the action feels rough, and the return spring is very heavy.Seems OK on the bike
You need a 3mm Allen wrench to adjust them. Tools to change pads too.=Not BB7
I needed Avid Speed Dial adjustable brake levers to get any real braking power out of them.=Not BB7
The cheap cable clamp damaged my new Jagwire Elite cables (bought to give these the best chance for success). This made it hard to install the Avid SD levers.
The 2 piston design doesn't flex the rotor. This could allow a thicker rotor, which TRP makes. But these won't work with that either.
Any advantages the 2 piston design may have had are lost in the execution here.
I'll have to buy new cables just to put my 15 year old BB7s back on the bike.

NOS Shimano Gripshifter
I run my converted Ebike with a front freewheel setup (not the vintage Shimano stuff). I've also converted another bike to this for consistency between my bikes. This allows shifting multiple gears up or down any time the bike is moving whether pedaling or not. The gripshifter (Revoshifter in Shimano speak) allows me to take advantage of this. For MTB use some of the SRAM shifters have a knobbier grip for slippery situations but most of the time these work really well.
