Excellent, reliable compact camera
The Casio Exilim EXZ75 is, first and foremost, a very pretty little device indeed. The brushed metal case, bevelled edges and huge LCD screen make it a treasured gadget, and that's before you even switch it on! Casio appear to have almost perfected the art of making this type of camera, and the EXZ75 is no exception. The photos it produces are quite bulky (at max quality they can be about 4MB each) but the detail is impeccable, and I don't think my photos have ever been as sharp. The Casio BS (BestShot) function is an absolute lifesaver in situations where you need to take a specific type of photo (portrait, candlelit scene, sports etc) and works so much better than similar functions I've used on other cameras over the years. The anti-shake DSP, which has such a bad press on most cameras, works very well here. I took a photo from a moving, juddering train using this function, and the result was sharp and rock-solid. Excellent for a dreadful photographer such as myself! The battery charges fast and keeps its charge for longer than any other camera I have owned, and the menu system on the camera is so instinctual, you will probably have no need to refer to the manual. 10/10 from me - a rare combination of beauty and functionality! reviewed June 2008

Gorgeous....
Vander's neo-classical opus 'Les Cygnes Et Les Corbeaux' (The Swans and the Crows) provides the listener with an unparalleled insight into the mind of the Zeuhl master. He had, through the music of Magma, always delivered intricate, powerful, challenging music (and continues to do so) but this album is a different animal. It sounds very personal, and was borne of his unique vision, flowing from dissonant counterpoint to soaring melody. But it is not as self-consciously polyrhythmic as his Magma work. It doesn't have the same brooding menace or relentless alien operatics. It really does feel like his own work, and since the man is a musical auteur and undisputed genius, this is indeed a good thing. The album is a revelation. To talk about any individual 'tracks' here would be to distract unduly from the binding whole, but you will be utterly seduced by 'Le semeur vers l'ouest', emotionally slain by 'Repos', and floored by 'Mon oiseau est parti pour un dernier voyage', which has possibly the most mellifluous harmony you will ever hear. Anywhere. This is a suite which Vander/Magma fans, and hopefully also fans of such bands as Sigur Ros, the Cocteau Twins and Dead Can Dance, will treasure as long as they have breath.
