Blood of Heaven by Bill Myers (1996)
This was the first book I read by this author. This is an innovative Christian book...but with a wonderful scientific angle. The storyline is strong, with good characters and a clear plot. The book had some lulls, and it was somewhat suspenseful, even though it is a suspense/fiction novel. The book has a lot of twists, and the writing of the book was good. It was quite an interesting concept, though the ending was a little predictable. The idea of Christ's blood being found and injected into a death row inmate, and being able to watch the results from several different characters point's of view was a good idea. The Story�Mysterious blood has been discovered on the remains of an ancient religious artifact. Some believe it is the blood of Christ. And experiments with specific genes from the blood have brought surprising findings. Now its time to introduce those genes into a human. Enter Michael Coleman: multiple killer, death-row resident . . . and, if he is willing, human guinea pig. There are no promises. The effects may kill Coleman or completely destroy his sanity. He agrees to the experiment, with results so astonishing that the research must continue--but not in prison. Given a new identity and new employer, Katherine Lyon, Coleman reenters society. And that�s when a plot far darker than science alone could construct begins to emerge. A carefully researched science and psychological thriller, Blood of Heaven is a nonstop page turner that looks deep into the heart of man, examining the nature of good and evil, flesh versus spirit, and the ever-growing controversy over genetically determined behavior.

Mario Kart Wii
Mario Kart has always been the ultimate "casual" game. Even if your friends (or parents) don't like video games, they liked Mario Kart. Non-gamers of all kinds have tossed a red shell at one point or another. It's only fitting (and inevitable) that the franchise makes its first appearance on the ultimate "casual" console. Mario Kart Wii adds a bit of new aspects to a formula that's tried-and-true, but it largely stays the same as the series we've known and loved for years.
Of course, Mario Kart Wii brings new things to the table as well. First up is the Wii Wheel, which is included with every game. The Wii Remote fits right into the center and allow for easier control of the vehicles for many gamers (more on that later). Also new to the game are motorcycles. You haven't lived until you've seen Bowser on a bike!
Throw in 12-player online, ghost data downloads, tournaments, and more customization options than ever before and you have a recipe for one of the best Mario Kart games ever.
When you first boot up Mario Kart Wii it will prompt you to download the Mario Kart Channel to your Wii dashboard. If you have your Wii online, this is a great tool as it creates an easy way to check and see if your friends are online playing the game, check out the latest tournaments, and check out where you rank versus your friends, region, and worldwide. All of this can be done without needing the game disc in the machine. Adding friends to your game is easy as it uses the same friend codes already on your Wii machine. All you have to do is select from your existing list of friends, a much easier way to manage friend codes and hopefully a standard all future games will abide by.
Speaking of online, you can play standard vs. matches or battle mode with up to 12 players.
All of the battle modes and vs. modes can be played offline as well, with up to 4 players per Wii. There are options galore for the racing modes.
If you want a true marathon match, set the races to 32 and the tracks to "in order" to see who the true master is.

The Miracle Worker (2001, DVD)

This version of the Miracle Worker stands up quite well to the 1962 version. The story itself is so inspiring, and the principal characters are so good. Imagine the troubles one would experience trying to raise a child is unable to speak, hear or see; this movie does a great job bringing the struggles to your television screen. The Pepsi-girl, Hallie Kate Eisenberg, gives a fantastic performance as the famous Helen Keller. She managed to pull off one of the most difficult jobs for any actor or actress - playing a the role of a deaf-mute, not to mention the blind part.
Alison Elliott plays Annie Sullivan, a woman dedicated to teaching Helen more than anyone could have ever dreamed of; the two are amazing, and each actress played off each other's extreme professionalism in making this film work. It could have easily failed without these two in their respective roles.
