Heartfelt signer/songwriter. His best performances ever
4 discs of top notch material, impecibly played and produced. the discs sorted in terms of style: Rockin, adult contemporary pop (fleetwood macish), Stright old timey country and western, authentic bluegrass. The style I would like the least would be the C&W, but when Gill plays it, it's glorious. There's a few Christian songs I'm not a fan of the genre, but what can I say, Vince is a great artist, in his hands any songs are great, and this is his mastepiece. This is great. Not a bad track on all four CDs

Great second album
As great as the first cd 'Pickin up the Pieces' was, this is even better. The performaces are more confident and more sharply played. The long jam "Nobody's Fool / El Tonto De Nadie, Regresa" has been dissed in some reviews, but it is not pointless jamming. If you like the Loggins and Mesina jam for 'Angry Eyes', it's similar to that. First album is great too but still has a Buffalo Springfield vibe (I recomend them both). On this one Poco established their own signiture sound.

Ignore the AMG. One of the best mid/late Tull albums!

The All Music Guide has a review trashing this album from a critic I once respected, Bruce Eder. Here are some excerpts: Broadsword -
"...is smoother, less heavy, and more thinly textured than their past work, and there are times ...where they could almost pass for the latter-day Moody Blues, something the band never would have permitted in earlier days ...."Broadsword" and "Pussy Willow" are easily the two best songs here,....Most of the rest is little better than tuneless drivel"
He also goes on to state that the music doesn't match the album cover themes. (wow, cutting edge music criticism, oh and playing the Moody Blues put down card is code for hating prog). Don't listen to the critic. Anderson's voice has NEVER sounded better, especially on the ballads. The eclectic mix of English folk and 80's production; Metallic sounding but compressed electric guitars, more digital sounding synths etc actually work IN FAVOR of the music. The so called thinly textured sound was intentional so the melodies (some of the most melodic in Tull's catalog) could be showcased instead of being drowned out with sound. One caveat. The original mastering from the 90's is not very good. Get the 2005 remaster. Even if you're a casual Tull fan, don't miss this one!
