I remembered this as a child on TV, hazily, never seeing the full series, I even got the book but never properly read it. So when this came up on DVD I finally got the chance to get into this. And it certainly took me back - I was gripped watching it continually back to back in my evenings, even though the special effects are now so dated, it is the attention to detail and honouring the book by John Christopher, that shines through - you don't get the formulaic punchlines or scripted scenes of today's TV series. I felt I was there in with Will and Beanpole and I got to see the City of the Masters at long last too. I wish they had made the final chapter but there might be a film on the horizon! Here's hoping!
