Pentax 645 SMC-FA 300mm/4 ED IF Lens
The Pentax 645 SMC-FA 300mm/4 ED IF Lens is an excellent medium format telephoto lens. The optics are superb, giving excellent contrast and color saturation to in focus subjects, while the background can be pleasingly blurred at wider apertures. Like any 300mm, getting deep depth of field can be a battle, and you have to make compromises between shutter speeds that allow handholding or stopping down to f/11 or f/16 to get more depth of field. In many situations a tripod or monopod may be very helpful or even essential. The reversing bayonet mount lens hood for the Pentax 300/4 FA lens is very convenient, though it seems quite a bit longer than I expected. Autofocus speed is adequate for subjects moving at moderate speed (such as rowboats in a regatta), but probably would not work for race-cars. This lens is fairly heavy when combined with my Pentax 645n, but not much worse than 35mm 300mm/4 with a professional 35mm SLR or DSLR.
