loved this book
original, inspiring, entertaining. I love road trips and this was one filled with annoyances, great food, introspection, revelation. Being a reluctant, resistant and captive novice-student of Eastern religion, philosophy, yoga and meditation, our hero was very likeable and real. I've passed this book on to others who enjoyed it enough to share it with others. It offers real depth while still being a quick easy read with plenty to ponder. I'll probably read it again.

worth it
I've been hearing about this book for years from counselor colleagues - it's been highly recommended. Now I need it for my own marriage; my husband and I are both reading it currently and finding it enlightening, hopeful, helpful, more readable than I expected.

my all time favorite book
Originally recommended to me by a friend, I've now bought dozens of copies and continue to give them away regularly. This is most comforting, inspiring book I've ever read; my copy is well-worn, well-traveled, and thoroughly marked up; parts of it have been read many, many times. It's always close at hand. I've read it in sermons, at funerals, at death beds. I've shared it with friends by reading aloud poignant or meaningful chapters. It often has he alternately laughing and crying. The historical story of Remen's relationship with her grandfather is inspiring and his wisdom a marvelous gift which I'm deeply grateful that she has shared. I've adopted her grandfather as my own to bless all the wonderful things and challenging things that come along with being alive and human. Rachel's stories tenderly convery her ability to be remarkably, empathically, expansively present to clients dealing with chronic, debiliating or terminal illness as they discover their own inner wisdom and healing. She's my hero and role model.
