Excellent Audio Quality, PCI-X, Digital Connections
Creative was really looking to only cater to certain crowds by restricting the higher end cards to Optical Digital connections. Although the price on this card is a bit steep the audio quality is phenomenal. Pros: uses PCI-X slot so it sits above my GPU and isn't in the way of SLI/CrossFire, really compact size (only ~4" long), TOSLink Optical Digital in and out right on the card, Full Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit) driver and application support Cons: Creative's software and driver packages are really where their audio cards fall short. Support is there for Windows 7, but uninstalling/reinstalling their drivers is a hassle if you're upgrading from another Creative card. Price is still pretty steep because they own the aftermarket audio-card market. Other Info: I upgraded my Creative X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty card to this one. I wanted to have a digital connection from my PC to my receiver and 5.1 Polk Audio surround system and the XtremeGamer doesn't have TOSLink Optical connections. The sound quality between the two cards is nearly identical, however this card has full support for Dolby Digital Live and DTS encoders. Which will use a constant digital signal from the card to your Receiver without any quality loss and keeping the channels fully independent. Beware, however; TOSLink only supports up to 5.1, for those of you with 7.1 systems.
