TaylorMade SuperSteel Sand, Lob, and Approach Wedges
Purchased these wedges new on eBay. I wanted a sand wedge that matches my Supersteel Burner set. This was a good choice; the feel is now consistent with the rest of the irons in my bag. I also purchased the matching approach wedge and lob wedge as well. It's important to maintain a reasonable distance range between clubs to give me my best chance to score well, since I don't hit 1/2 or 3/4 shots with any consistency. Full swings with the sand wedge give me 55-60 yards when struck properly, the approach wedge gives me 70-80 yards when well-hit, and the pitching wedge, hit properly, gives me 90-105 yards. Scoring well from these ranges is important for my game. I bought a new driver (TaylorMade R7 425) which gives me about 25-30 additional yards, and shots I used to play to the 100 yard marker for a full wedge into the green are now within the approach wedge or sand wedge distance. It was driving me crazy trying to make a consistent 1/2 or 3/4 swing with the pitching wedge from those distances. I worry about that less now, and it saves me 3-4 strokes per round that I don't chunk or blade over the green. My previous set of Hogan Radials has a sand wedge with a radiused leading edge -- great for sand shots, but tough to align for shots from the fairway. It also has a lot of bounce, and shots from tighter lies were difficult. This sand wedge has a little less bounce, but the bounce increases more than the Hogan does when you open the clubface in the bunker. That makes it more usable for me. All of the TaylorMade Supersteel irons have a slight draw bias, and having the wedges play the same way is one less variable I must contend with. Keeping the same wedges when changing a set of irons may be a good idea for many people, but it didn't work well for me. My play through the irons is more consistent in feel now. I'm not a good player, but that feel is something I can detect.

TaylorMade Rescue Dual #3 (19 deg.) and #4 (22 deg.)
I purchased the 22 degree TaylorMade Rescue Dual #4 new on eBay, after purchasing a demo model TaylorMade Rescue Dual #3 at Golfsmith. I'm getting older, and 3 & 4 irons no longer have the distance I need. I can actually hit my 5 iron the same distance as either a 3 or 4 iron, these days. I wanted to try hybrids to solve this problem, while having them be consistent with my Supersteel Burner iron set. The Rescue Dual #3 gave me back the 3 iron distance I needed; the change was so dramatic, I chose to add the Rescue Dual #4 as well. It's likely the #5 will be added in my bag soon; yes, they are that good. The movable weighting system is very helpful, I've found. As they come from the factory, the Rescue Dual is set with the 2g weight in the toe, and the 14g weight in the heel, promoting a draw. My natural shot with both the #3 and #4 went left consistently. I've just changed the weights to having the 14g weight in the toe, and the 2g weight in the heel; this has given me a straight shot on almost every stroke. My experience with my new TaylorMade R7 425 driver was similar; I set it up originally for a slight draw, but I found that configuring the weights for a high neutral launch was the best configuration for me. (Now, if I could find the sweet spot more consistently...) If you don't own a TaylorMade driver with the movable weights, you'll need to either buy the overpriced TaylorMade wrench or get a properly-sized Torx bit that fits a quality torque wrench that can be set consistently for 30 inch-pounds. My opinion: buy the wrench on eBay or at discount somewhere, since if you use another wrench than TaylorMade's, you'll most likely not be covered under warranty if you over- or under-tighten the weights. You may not change the weights if you find a configuration that works for you, but people's games change over time. I'm not a good player, but feel is something I can detect, and I want to have the best shot I can at fitting my clubs to my game as best I can. The Rescue Dual hybrids offer me that. Now I have to hit them better, and I'm working on that, too.
