Abbey Road by The Beatles (CD, Oct-1987, Capitol)

Beatles Mania
Enjoyable piece of the mop-tops' music history. You can appreciate the ground breaking sound the Beatles developed at this point in the 1960s. If you added this music album with their Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, you manage to get most of the songs the Bee-Gees used in their movie tribute to the Beatles with their Sgt. Pepper's late 70's motion picture. This album, Abbey Road, was also in the midst of the "Paul is Dead" rumors the Beatles created for those folk who always tried to find hidden messages in the music soundtracks. Even the cover photo of Abbey Road holds a visual clue -- with Paul barefoot on the street crossing.

Nice Little Fairy Figures
This is a nice collection of small fairy figures featuring Tinkerbell and a couple of her friends from the various Disney Tinkerbell adventure TV movies. Their size is basically 1-to-1, in other words -- they are the size these fairies might appear in real life. Due to the delicate nature of the wings,(plastic figures, plastic wings) they are shipped with the wings detached, which require them to be glued with plastic specific cement to best place for proper display. Also, some of the bases require gluing into place, for much the same reason. (The little blue fairy, and the Tinkerbell in a pose of sitting on the shelf, require no base.) A very calming, charming collection of the Little folk. Suitable for display in individual areas about the home, or a room. NOT suitable for children/toddlers. These fairies are for the grown up collector.

Cartoon Network's Halloween extravaganza
Hi! The Cartoon Network Halloween DVD (9 Creepy Cartoon Capers) is touted as CN's first Halloween collection of episodes from its various popular cartoon series. It opens with the episode "Billy and Mandy's Jacked up Halloween" special. In this gem, Grim and kids face the perils of Jack'o Lantern's vengeance for Grim's act of giving Jack immortality, but taking Jack's head in the bargain centuries ago. (Jack makes do with a carved pumpkin for a head.) Jack's history and crimes of tom foolery are revealed -- so the viewer understands why Jack wants to chop Grim's head off.(Seems Grim's magical scythe would permanently part Grim's skull from his body, if so employed.) This is a very good episode, well worth the DVD alone. Next epi: Johnny Bravo hooks up with the Scooby-Doo gang to discover where Johnny's missing Aunt has got to. This is a wonderful (and short) cross over of TV series (even a brief cameo of Speed buggy is included.) The fun is notched up a lot by many "in-jokes" ("Isn't 'Jinkies' a breakfast cereal?" Johnny asks.)It's also nice to see Velma have the eyes for Johnny, and we are left to ponder exactly "what" Fred and Daphnie are doing (hint-hint) while everyone else runs from a ghostly gardener. Another infamous "Eds" cartoon ("Dawn of the Eds")is in this collection. The cul-de-sac mayem of re-enacting a super robot Sci-Fi spectacular captures the boys' imaginations. (With the Kanker sisters making an appearance, and most of the action happening in the local junkyard.) "Boogie Frights", a PowerPuff Girls adventure, pits the mighty munchkins against monsters under the bed. Ghosts and ghouls from the local underworld haunted disco -- help the Boogie man send a monstrous disco-ball (the size of the Star Wars Death-Star) to blot out the sun over Townsville forever. Of course, no PPG episode is complete without a little fatherly advice everyone can use. There are two episodes of "Courage the Dog" on this DVD: The "Demon Under The Mattress", and "Courage meets Big Foot." There are food fights staged, haunted bedding, and mobs of peasants brandishing lit torches and farm implements. A take off of the Exorcist and Dracula, and monterous children are involved. "Dexter's Laboratory" is represented in this collection. In this one, Dexter suffers from school Picture Day dorkiness -- until he decides to perform plastic surgery upon himself. The results are fantastic -- until a few hot lamps do some damage. The theory that glasses makes one 'Super Intelligent', is insanely explored in the episode of "Cow and Chicken" on the disk. But no costume (or cartoon) is complete without fudging on eye exams, or Super Cow's appearance. There is also one "I Am Weasel" cartoon (titled: I Am Vampire") which presents Weasel and Baboon as vampire bats, and an appearance by the "Red-Guy" as a vampire hunter. I primarily wanted this disk for the all important Billy and Mandy episode and the witty Johnny Bravo episode. If the disk is bought for the Little Ones in your family, be assured this DVD is perfectly "For All Ages", with nothing to scare, but plenty to laugh at. I rate this disk Top Notch. -- Doug
