A remake that actually stands as tall as the original
First off I am not exactly what you would call a big fan of movie remakes. There have been so many bad ones released either in the theatre or on television, with only a few that can actually stand up to the originals - well at least in my opinion. That said, rather than list all of the "bad" movie remakes, I prefer to promote this surprisingly excellent version of the original "Psycho". If you're a Hitchcock fanatic then you more than likely would put the original "Psycho" near the top of your favorite Hitchcock film list (wouldn't you?). Personally I love the original version - a real classic; but I enjoyed the remake so much that I decided to add it to my collection. Underrated actor Vince Vaughn delivers what I would describe as a very CREEPY performance as the infamous 'Norman Bates'. His portrayal of Bates is no doubt just as disturbing as that of Perkins, but disturbing in a different way. For example, while Perkins portrays Bates as an unnerving, jittery and immensely strange individual, Vaughn's version appears to be more "creepy" as I've already mentioned. Vaughn portrays Bates as a young man who is childlike, a man who is clearly socially and emotionally immature. He also adds a nervous smile to the Bates character, making Bates come across as not only a very private person, but a man who seems to be very uncomfortable around others. His performance is believable and that is crucial to any remake. It's not the first film where Vaughn plays a 'strange' character, but I believe it's his best. Again, it's difficult to adequately compare two talented actors and it probably isn't fair to do so anyway. Perkins was great. Vaughn is great too. Oh, and the other actors in the newer version are terrific as well. However, it is Vaughn's portrayal of Norman Bates that captures and holds the attention of movie viewers. This is a MUST-SEE film for fans of Vince Vaughn, one of the most talented actors of his generation. As for the Hitchcock fans I would give this film a strong recommendation. Also for the latter, if you can watch this film on it's own merit, with an open mind and without constantly comparing it to the original, you too may be pleasantly surprised! Vaughn is probably one of the most talented actors of his generation

One of the best shows on t.v.
One thing that I cannot do is compare CSI NY to the other CSI series. I've been watching CSI NY from the beginning but have never seen an episode from any of the other CSI shows. Guess its not necessary since they are only related in title and the category of crime drama. What I can say, however, is that I really enjoy the New York series and that is why I decided to purchase it. This is coming from someone who does not exactly buy a lot of box sets -- uh, mostly because they are so costly. It was well worth the price though (alright, so I waited until I could get a more reasonable price on Amazon.) All of the cast members do a good job overall but it is really Gary Sinise and Melinda Kanakaredes who really make this show work. There is a definite chemistry between their two characters and they portray an excellent crime solving team. Difficult to pick a single favorite episode since I really do like all of them. No corny dialogue here, just good acting and interesting stories. Nice packaging and an entire disc of extras are also included. A lot of people buy DVDs for the extras and its always a disappointment when none are included. No disappointment here though. Already looking forward to purchasing season two.

Just gets better and better with each season...
The N.Y. series is the only CSI that I watch. As in season 1 and season 2, season 3 continues to profile the character chemistry between Gary Sinise and Melinda Kanakaredes. The rest of the cast does a great job as well. As with the two previous seasons it's difficult for me to choose a favorite episode so I wont. I will add though that some are better than others, but all of them seem to be pretty good. Oh, and the season finale does not disappoint, as some finales from other popular t.v. shows sometimes do. Appreciate the extras too -I only wish all the box-set DVDs I am interested in included extras...can't wait for season 4!
