MDR 5XX vs 8XX - and the winner is...
2 von 2 finden das hilfreich There is much misinformation regarding the 8XX series vs the 5XX series Funai H7 DVD/HDD Recorders.
First off, the transcoding function - downloading direct to Android device: I am unconvinced this is worth the trouble. It does not support high speed, even when the original is recorded in SLP (the 5XX does have this feature, enabling you to EDIT out segments on the HDD and then DUB the keepers to the disc. It is actually much faster to DUB on the 5XX and then place the disc in your computer and drag and drop; Then you play with any number of Android video players.
Changing an existing program on the 8XX: YES YOU CAN! find and highlight the program you wish to change. press menu and then find the parameter you wish to modify - target recording media, day, time, channel - all can be changed
Editing from HDD: If I didn't know better, I would tell you the 5XX was the "next generation" Magnavox recorder! The editing is superior - period. Like night and day, making the 5XX series more valuable than the 8XX of similar vintage and condition.
What will fail: It is likely that the DVD unit will fail if you use it too much. I would estimate 1000 days of continuous running is about all you will get. Your work around is NOT to stream to the DVD. In either machine, you are better off recording to the HDD and playing back from there. This is where the decision on which machine to get will play out - assuming you can find either.
OPINION: I am likely selling the MDR867 and flipping it for an MDR515. Here is what I will be sacrificing:
1. ability to expand HDD externally
2. ability to stream from OTR tuner or Cablebox to portable network devices
3. About 750 GB in internal disc space
4. If I do not replace the MDR515 with something I can still use it if I spin the disc up manually, and at this juncture, I think it is worth it!

Performs like new
Placed in a RAID 1 array for certainty, considering these were taken out of service, they appear to be well worth the price.

Diameter too small to cushion keys
3 von 3 finden das hilfreich Quality is good but the size is not right, these rings do not make contact with fully depressed keys. Another vendors' product made a noticeable difference, but not these.
Maybe I will double up?
