50+ Festive Santa Projects - amazing variety
Paperback edition of the 1996 book. Santa Claus is depicted sometimes as a roly-poly gentleman and sometimes as a slender spirit. The Santa projects in this book by many artists using a great variety of media make it possible to create Santa in all his guises. There are needlepoint ornaments, a pine cone doll, and Santa's in papier-Mache, wood, and polymer clay, as well as step-by-step instructions and patterns for all the projects. Especially valuable for the variety of materials used. What I liked about the book - the variety! There is something for every crafter in this book. Each of the 52 patterns features a color photograph of the finished product, written directions, and patterns (reduced); not once, however, includes the basics of the craft involved--woodworking, stitchery, papier-mache, etc. Fom serious old world St. Nicks to the jolly Mr. Claus - so many seasonal classics and new interpretations. Projects include variety such as: Santa Star Pillow Needlepoint Ornaments Santa Stocking Christmas Tree Skirt Windsock Santa Catching a Few Winks - Rug Hooking Santa Sampler - Cross Stitch Harlequin Santa - Sewing English Peddler Santa - Sewing Pinecone Father Christmas Christmas Tree Santa - Ornament Polymer Clay Santa - by Maureen Carlson Papier Mache' Santa Pins - Painted Santa Gourd Pendant - Painted Light of the Moon Jacket - Painted (fabric) Painted Egg Ornaments - Painted Moon and Stars Gourd Santa - Painted Winter's Eve Santa - Sewn Wondrous Saint - Sewn Dislike - It should be no surprise that I didn't like all of the Santa's. That is to be expected with such a wide variety. I didn't even like most of them. But I found enough that I was interested in, or interested in sharing with others. Many of the projects - such as a knitted Santa sweater - were intersting to look at and share.... but not practical if you do not already know the craft basics (knitting in this case.)

Make Vintage Quilts- Full sized patterns. Wide variety.
This valuable 1949 volume is a complete and practical quilting handbook and describes all you need to know: Applique, Patchwork, Cutting, Sewing, Lining, and Finishing. Full-size patterns and designs for over 100 lovely American Regional and Modern quilts, a history of quilts and a guide to collecting! B&W illustrations throughout this complete, easy-to-follow guide that will show you how to make beautiful quilts. One of the best available book on reproducing a wide range of vintage designs with full information, full-size patterns for making traditional quilts, tons of other basic patterns for making your own designs, and over 480 helpful illustrations. What I liked: I enjoy recreating vintage quilts. In this book I found a clear photograph of numerous vintage quilts, followed by full sized patterns. Perfect! No running to the copier and trying to re-create your own pattern. If you like to make vintage quilts also, you will find one you HAVE to make in this book :0) What I would have liked to see: Color photographs. It is really unnecessary. Since the designs are so simple and the colors of early quilts were often standard and very easy to imagine. Complete instructions for the following well-known quilt designs: Basket, Tree of Life and other Tree patterns, Flowers in a pot, Traditional geometric, Tulip, Friendship (including the Oak Leaf Wreath, Wreath of Grapes, Wreath of Roses, and the Foliage Wreath), Triple sunflower, Square and cross, Wild rose wreath, Saw Tooth, Cock's Comb, Drunkard's Path, Goose Tracks, Double Irish chain, Pineapple, Log cabin, Cornucopia, North Carolina lily, Sun burst, Pennsylvania Dutch crib quilt, Tulip crib quilt, Pennsylvania Dutch design, Oak Leaf, Tulip designs. Prairie flower, Lobster, Bridal wreath, Rose of Sharon, Melon Patch, Hearts and flowers, Mosaic, Whig rose, Birds in air, Bud and rose wreath, Hawaiian grape vine, Mexican cross, flying geese, Moon over the mountain, Storm at sea and Peony. CONTENTS Chapter I: Planning Your Quilt Chapter II: How to Make your Quilt Chapter 3: The Quilt's Design and Its Parts Chapter 4: Patterns and How to Use Them Chapter 5: Borders. Chapter 6: Quilting. Chapter 7: Tufting. Chapter 8: Other Uses for quilting. Chapter 9: Unusual quilts. Chapter 10: Collecting quilts as a hobby. Chapter 11: Famous American quilts and how to draft their patterns. Chapter 12: The story of quilt making.

Like tiny details? This book gives you the tools!
Easy to follow designs for 12 projects. If you want to make a miniature house, you can accomplish it with this book. Why haven't I made any of the cozy cottages, fancy manors, churches, grocery stores and more? Because they are tedious! All those fascinating details take time - they just don't magically appear. I feel that the projects were so well documented that I realized I would never do all that work! :0) You get a pattern to trace for the structure and incredibly detailed step by step photos to guide you through the whole process. This book has it all. Each project follows the same basic sequence of assembly and includes patterns, step-by-step illustrations, color-mixing recipes, and a photo of the finished house.
