Worth the ten year wait!
1 von 1 finden das hilfreich It took Mr. Wolfe ten years to write this book; it's a big fat long one too. And utterly fascinating.
OK, I'm a dyed in the wool TW fan. This book has every thing you love about his work, the details of 1990's culture, the documentation of detail that will make the book interesting a century from now, the twists- Stoic philosophers?- that make a great novel,and the story flows like a great TV series, the kind you arrange your lif around (but so does every one you know) Lots of shallow rich people, tidbits about actual High Society, journalism crossed with Names Have Been Changed To Keep You Guessing... Reading Tom Wolfe is always a joy.
So I'd lost my prescious first editin in the New Orleans flood, and snagged a replacement on Ebay. I reread Mr. Wolfes books pretty regularly and HAVE to have an entire set at hand.
Try this out, you'll enjoy your self. The research and back stories are so good they're educational. Classic TW.

Wow, what a book!
0 von 1 finden das hilfreich Better than the movie, so well researched the journalism flows like the best novel ever,... This stuff is all true! So intimate, so detailed, what a story about individuals nobody could make up.
I'm an unabashed Tom Wolfe fan. His books are such well detailed, beautifully written documents of times and places and events, they're textbooks of American twentieth century culture. The Right Stuff is the tale of the American jet age and early space travel, but moe interestingly the story of the men who couldn't say no to the risks that flying involved. There's the wives, their tears. the deaths, the competition. And the drinkingh and brawling and, aham , ecetera. Politics. Propaganda.
Read it, you'll enjoy it. Then read the earlier books of shorter peices and look at the whole concept of the Right Stuff. It's an beautiful thing.

Cycling socks...
Why only four stars? Because I have a pile of Sock Guys from the year they started up, and these are good socks but not the 25 year sort the first batch were.
I guess they just need us to buy them more often?
They are no blister, no hot spot socks for any sport you want. Still the best available choice short of high end wool. And, really cute!
