Great hits, great selection, but not necessarily Rock 'n Roll
1 von 1 finden das hilfreich The good: As with the other years that are profiled in these Billboard collections, courtesy of chart aficionado Joel Whitburn and archival masters Rhino records, the tracks on this CD all hit the top 10 in 1971. Great little compilation of radio hits, especially for music collectors who like having the "single versions" or "radio edits" of these songs on top of the album versions. Sound quality is great.
The so-so: As with the Billboard compilations that profiled the years 1975 and beyond, the pre-1975 compilations like this one should have also been called "Top Hits". Top Rock n' Roll Hits is kind of an inappropriate title when there's tracks by pop artists such as Tony Orlando and Dawn, Cornelius Brothers and Sister Rose, and especially the Osmonds.
The bad: Considering the available space on a CD, 10 songs on a CD compilation is a bit stingy. Rhino and Whitburn could've been more generous in representing each year with these compilations. Look at Rhino's Super Hits of the 70s series, as an example.
Overall, these Billboard compilations like 1971 are a nice addition to music lovers' collections, but a completest might be hungry for a bit more than what's offered on each CD.
