A Brilliant Musical Rainbow - Buy This CD Now!!!
A brief, brilliant snapshot of the sublimely original and groundbreaking BBC Radio program, Blue Room, which ran for several years but concluded last year. Much musical variety is included on these 2 discs, compiled by Rob da Bank and Chris Coco, both top-flight DJ's in their own right. From quirky electro-pop to sing-a-long gypsy folk, dub and roots vibes to straight ahead spiraling dance mixes of already established hit singles, this compilation is vital indeed. Especially for those seeking something off the beaten track, possibly "underground" yet extremely current, this one's for you.

A Rare Treat
Initially I bought this title for the first single and first track 'King Of the Mountain', off the album 'Aerial' - definitely one of the best singles from 2005. However I had no idea how rare and special this record is. The first disc is fine enough with its fair share of highlights, one of them being the track 'Mrs. Bartolozzi' as she sings so beautifully about the simple, perhaps mundane act of doing the laundry and in the process makes it sound like the most virtuous thing in the world. But it is the second disc that really soars and is truly spectacular. Its scope and variety is astonishing while pushing all the right buttons. 'Sunset' and 'Somewhere in Between' are top, the latter incorporating the breakbeat very efficiently indeed! who would have thought.. Great to have Kate Bush back making proper music. Top marks, without hesitation.

Throw Down Your Arms And Throw This In The CD Player!
It is always a treat to hear a Sinead O'Connor record, and especially after she announced her retirement from the recording industry several years ago. However the opportunity to work with legendary Jamaican producers Sly & Robbie proved too great a one to miss out on. In her reinterpretation of timeless reggae standards, Sinead brings typical strength of conviction and emotion by the boat load, to the solid arrangements of the master musicians backing her. She sings "Ain't got no food to eat, ain't got no money to spend" in the song, Marcus Garvey, with enough persuasion to bowl over the strongest of sceptics. Highlights include two Lee Perry tracks - Curly Locks and Vampire, as well as a jaw-dropping rework of War, which seems particularly pertinent in these deeply troubled times of ours. Reggae fans should check it in due course, as well as all devotees of music of the female vocal variety. Sinead doesn't so much tread new territory, but rather illuminates and reminds us of the humble and steadfast beauty of reggae music's rich heritage.
