Best in its price range.
I purchased this lens as a portrait lens. It is still a great value and is much more reasonably costed than the f/1.2. I wanted it to be the same focal length as the EF 135 f/2.0 as seen on a crop (APS-C) body camera. It exhibits some purple fringing at f/1.8, but not at any other aperture. It is very sharp from f/2.0-8.0. Works well in low light. You may get a better quality lens from Sigma 85mm 1.4 or from the Canon 85mm 1.2, but at those prices this lens seems much more reasonable.

Stunning quality. Great value for money.
I purchased this lens for my Canon 450d (XSi) and wanted a normal focal length prime lens on my crop frame body. There is no other lens with this aperture and focal length for this price that has decent quality. This works very well in low light and is extremely sharp from f/2.0-8.0. At f/1.4 its a bit dreamy, but you may like that quality and it does well in a pinch. The only downside is that I had to purchase an adapter (make sure it has an AF confirm chip/programmable). It is soft at f/1.4 and exhibits purple fringing at f/1.4-2.0 (2.0 is negligible). Manual focusing takes some getting used to but is really rather easy once you get the hang of it. All in all, I'd say that it was worth every penny I paid for it and is a great alternative to the Canon EF 35mm f/1.4 and Samyang 35mm f/1.4.
