This book is just as good as the others in the Merry Gentry series, however if you also read the Anita Blake books, you will start to see major similarities in the lead characters. Maybe it's on purpose, maybe Laurell makes them so much the same for her own reasons, but I do find the characters strongly "one", leaving aside certain differences. You won't be disappointed in this book though, it delivers. But in all honesty, all of them do.

An amazingly chilling ride...
Once again purchasing a Kathy Reichs novel to get caught up on the Temperance Brennan stories. This one opens with a bang, literally, and a chilling one at that. Don't read this in the dark, it can give even the toughest of the tough (including me) a new reason to be ultra paranoid about the world at large and the not-so-lovely crimes people commit against one another. Leave it to Kathy to get it all down pat. She gives Tempe Brennan all the moxie and chutzpah a girl needs to survive in ANY field. All of Kathy's books have some basis in truth to them, which makes a lot of the stories, this one included, damn fascinating. She is to forensic anthropology what Angelina Jolie is to Lara Croft, and I sum it all up in one word: BRILLIANT.

Very impressed with the writing on this one...
Once again Kathy Reichs blows you away with her compelling story in Devil Bones. For me, this book was a little like comparitive religion in that it covers Wicca, Santeria, Voodoo, and one or two others are mentioned during the case and throughout the story. If you know nothing about these religions, you'll learn something. For me, it was a bit of a reminder for a few of them.
This core of the story is not your typical Temperance Brennan stuff, it's better. Set in North Carolina, you get a true feel for the areas mentioned, for the events, for everything really. If you're already a fan of Kathy's novels, you have to read this. If you love the TV show Bones, you're missing out by not reading the books. This one ranks at the top as one of my faves.
