Horses for courses, this one is special.
First, there is a mistake in the title: the focal length of the lens is 35mm. Minolta started the Celtic line of lenses as a more-affordable version of their MC series. The glass and element configurations are the same, but the construction uses more plastic and fewer coatings. This lens shares the same general characteristics of that series: excellent contrast and color, well-controlled chromatic aberration, and minimal distortion and fringing. The lighter weight can be a welcome benefit, especially when this lens is used with an adapter for a micro 4/3 camera. When used this way, it takes on the properties of a 70mm short telephoto prime that can focus down to about 1 foot. The lighter focus ring, however, makes it feel less well-damped, and focussing can be a little fiddly, especially at distances beyond 5 feet or so. It is like this both on a Minolta camera body as well as on an adapter. The lighter coating is something of a two-edged sword. On the one hand, it makes the lens very sensitive to minor variations in light, which can improve clarity and enhance contrast. On the other hand, that same sensitivity makes it extremely vulnerable to direct light sources, resulting in lens flare, halation, blown highlights, and general loss of contrast and color saturation. Professional quality multi-coated filters and a lens hood can help, but I found experimentally that in order to be completely effective the hood would have to be about 18 inches long! Suggested applications are creative portraiture and video with well-controlled lighting. It should also work well outdoors in foggy or rainy weather. Unless the sun is at your back, it is tricky to use for landscapes. A search on Flickr for "Minolta Celtic 1:2.8 f=35mm" will show some examples of photos taken with this lens.

【US】Quick Release Vertical L-Plate Bracket Grip Holder For Olympus PEN EP5
14. Jan 2017
Excellent QR L-plate that (mostly) keeps the PEN spirit
This accessory is well-designed. The battery, memory card, and remote release ports are easily accessible while the plate is attached. The plate provides light-weight yet solid support for ARCA Swiss-compatible clamps. The grip is too thick for my hand, yet this is easily removed. Unfortunately, because the bolts are oriented vertically, this leaves a horizontal "shelf" that sticks out on the right hand side. This is the only reason I did not give this plate a five-star rating. Overall, this is a recommended way to facillitate tripod and monopod use with this camera without losing its "pocketability".

A smooth, versatile lens
This is the kit lens supplied with most of the Olympus micro four-thirds cameras. It is wonderfully matched to those cameras, and except for the most demanding of applications, easily substitutes for a bag full of primes. Image quality is very good throughout the zoom range. Chromatic aberrations are well-controlled, and what little distortion there is is well-compensated for through in-camera processing. Lens flare and ghosting are virtually non-existent — one has to deliberately point the lens at a light source to get those effects. Out-of-focus quality is smooth, if unremarkable. The automatic focussing works quickly and accurately. Like most zoom lenses, it's not the sharpest knife in the drawer. It also isn't the fastest, and there are times when one would like to be able to open it up for a more limited depth of field. Just the same, resolution is above average and consistent throughout the field of view. The result is a lens that is quite versatile and consistently above average in its performance. It is one of the few zoom lenses on any camera that I actually enjoy using.
