Entertaining.
This is very clean romantic fiction. A well written story. No swear words or inappropriate material. An excellent author.

an enjoyable action read
While the Reckoning is a bit of a far-fetched storyline, the action is entertaining. I enjoyed reading this book. The author writes descriptively. It is clean action fiction which is oftentimes difficult to find. I read the book because my teenage son had enjoyed it.

great concept, but not the best storyteller
These books have interest from the standpoint of learning about the Amish community, and they are excellent in their explanation of salvation through grace. Unfortunately, Beverly Lewis is not an exceptional writer. She tends to consistently tell the story in the past tense through the memories of the character. For example, the character will be quilting while remembering what happened yesterday. The next scene will find the character baking bread while remembering what happened yesterday after the quilting. The next scene might find someone reading a letter from another character that describes what happened last week. My opinion is that a story is more interesting when it is presented as it happens with dialogue and action. I don't know that I have ever read another author who has as much difficulty in telling a story. I find the lack of present tense action and dialogue to be frustrating. In addition, the plot is extremely predictable. But I appreciate Lewis' beliefs. She obviously knows God personally and, I believe, accurately understands his love, character, and desire to be in relationship with people. From a theological perspective the books are very good. While they cannot be taken seriously in a literary sense, they will likely be greatly enjoyed by younger readers.
