Honestly if your ISP (Internet Service Provider) Doesn't require you to use this modem, RUN. This is the Fastest Modem that my current ISP allows HOWEVER, from what i've researched this is a model that isn't for retail sale. It is sold to ISP's and then pushed onto their users. I Cannot speak for retail Arris Models, but this one is a pain.
First off if you manage to find on online for sale it's usually really expensive. Secondly it's going to be used. Third the web based user interface is problematic. It works most of the time but does crash a bit.
You will need your ISP to set it up (as with any other modem) hopefully your ISP does it correctly the first time. (More of a problem with the ISP than the modem)
I have had 2 of these now, one from my ISP and another I picked up on eBay (To avoid rental charges). Both had the same issues, on and off.. I highly suggest picking up the battery for this, because if you loose power and the modem turns off, when it turns back on you will no doubt have to power cycle everything on your network several times over.
I've had to disable the WiFi on mine, as it's signal is weak and drops constantly. I attempted to run a secondary router with the DHCP disabled, to create a second hotspot but the Arris couldn't handle it and would drop the whole network. Do not know how or why, should not have happened... but if your looking for strong wifi i suggest disabling the Arris WiFi and setting up something else after it.
All in all, it gets the job done as long as it isn't touched. But any little thing and it can be thrown for a loop. If you can avoid it Please do. If Not.... sorry.
