The Chinese 10 Cash dragon coin - can good fortune be yours?
I purchased this copper coin for its beautiful artwork and good circulated condition. My plans for the coin are to modify it for use as a piece of jewelry. I plan to insert a small precious gemstone into the orb held by the dragon depicted on the coin - a sapphire, ruby or diamond. Or perhaps a bezel of silver, copper or brass to accentuate the coin and suspend it from a necklace. The small diameter of the 10 Cash coin, about the diameter of a quarter, makes it ideal to use as a necklace pendant. A larger pendant would be possible with the 20 Cash copper coin, about the size of a half dollar coin. There are many possible jewelry uses.
For those who appreciate Chinese dragon mythology, artwork or graceful text characters on the reverse of the coin, the 10 Cash coin (with dragon) is very nice. Each province that minted the coin seems to have variations in depicting the dragon, all quite lovely.
I look for 10 Cash coins that are in circulated condition and affordable, ideally a few dollars each. A perfect coin for me to use as jewelry still has crisp dragon facial features and visible individual body scales. Ideally the dragon's five-toed feet are still discernible.
I understand a dragon coin would sometimes be carried through its life by one Chinese owner as an object of good fortune, the virtues of the dragon hopefully imparted on the owner. So a well worn dragon coin would have its own beauty and history for us to imagine - and simply carrying it in a pocket once again might release mythical powers.
