BE CAREFUL!
BE CAREFUL WHEN BUYING THIS CAR!! It was my dream since they first came out in 1992 to own this awesome sports car.. I recently bought a 1997 3000GT SL. What a disaster! 3 days after I bought it, the head gasket blew. Left me on the side of the road... I gave up on that car when I found out that it needed about $2000 worth of engine work done... I decided to buy another one I had been looking at before.... also a 1997. I drove it for a month, and the first time I tried to take it on a road trip, it started overheating and losing oil. I managed to limp it to my brothers house..he is a certified mechanic. When he tore into the engine, he found signs that indicated that the car was sold WITH THE HEAD GASKET BLOWN ALREADY, and they had "patched it up" to sell it. Now, Im driving a Chevy.... While Im still in love with the looks and performance of the 3000GT (especially the VR-4), I have to wonder if this head gasket issue wasn't maybe a fatal flaw with that design (at least the '97 - '99 incarnations)
