Top notch fighting game for veterans and newbies!
This game is fantastic!
The story mode is much more developed than other fighting game stories, even compared to other Aksys games.
The fighting game mechanics are simplified, which I wanted. All of the special moves use quarter circle rolls, which makes it much easier to remember them. There are also a bunch of useful command normals (single button specials). Some people get annoyed that the throws require two buttons at once, but that can be easily remapped to a trigger. There is also a single button auto-combo for each character that allows beginners to do decent damage even just starting out.
The game has a tutorial mode to introduce all of the mechanics and a challenge mode to teach combo mechanics and special features of each character. You can have the computer demonstrate the sequence for you and it gives feedback, showing how far in the sequence you were able to perform correctly. This is all really well done, though some of the advanced challenges may mean going online to find help with them.
The art is absolutely beautiful in keeping with Persona 4 (and Persona 3) which this is based on. Each character has multiple still shots with different facial expressions and body language to fill out the story. The characters from Persona 3 were updated to adjust for a few years of growth and maturity. The characters are all a delight to look at. Meanwhile, the character concepts were all incredibly well developed in the original games and that carries over here. Even so, the game has very little / no fan service, which is a major departure for a fighting game.

Much preferable to the normal 3DS, but make sure you try it first.
The bigger screen on the 3DS XL is incredible! The 3D still works great and the unit is solidly built.
It is big enough that it has more trouble fitting in pockets. This isn't a problem for me, as it fits nicely in my jeans and cargo pants.
Also, the buttons, joypad, and crosspad are all pretty close to the edge, which uses the space efficiently, but takes some getting used to.

This is a 3DS version of Hyrule Warriors, which is one of the greatest [Dynasty] Warriors style games of all time.
