Within its limitations, an excellent value for the money
Mine is a Canon EOS AF version. Very reasonably priced, and the 35-105mm works out to a 55-170mm f2.8 on a Canon APS-C camera - which makes it a natural portrait lens. Light and fairly compact for it's focal length and aperture. No better than adequate image quality at f2.8 and f3.5 – contrast is very low and resolution is OK but hampered by the low contrast. If you want a soft dreamy quality, f2.8 is your aperture. Significantly better (good) IQ at f4. Best f5.6-f8. Good control of color fringing. This Tamron design is from the early 90s, so it cannot be expected to be as good as a more recent or more expensive designs. Autofocus is OK, but not fast enough for action, and noisy – this was one of Tamron’s first AF lenses. I also own the Tamron 28-105mm f2.8 that replaced this lens in the mid-90s. Web postings have said this is worse wide-open than the 35-105mm f2.8. I don’t think this is true. To Tamron’s credit, they stretched the low-end down to 28mm without significantly affecting performance. This later lens is much larger and heavier. Even with these caveats, you still get a good f4 lens and an excellent f5.6-f8 lens - and there is very little completion in this focal length, esp. at this price. So, I recommend the 28-105mm to full frame shooters, as it’s a handy focal length range. I recommend the 35-105mm to APS-C shooters as it makes a decent portrait lens. By the way, if wide open image quality is important to you, the much newer (2003 design) and more expensive Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 is much better than the above lenses wide open, albeit with a shorter max. focal length.

Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC Zoom Lens for Canon EOS Digital SLR Cameras

another excellent Tamron lens
I bought this to supplement other 18-200mm's I have. It's weather / water resistant, so I bought it for use on inclement days. As with all high-ratio 20:1 zooms, the image quality at the telephoto end isn't as good as other focal lengths. But this lens has better telephoto image quality (particularly chromatic aberration) than the Sigma 18-200mm OS and Canon 18-200mm IS lenses I have. This lens is also substantially lighter than those lenses, but at the expense of a composite plastic lens mount. The only down-side is the VC is only worth ~2 stops of image stabilization, while the Sigma offers ~4 stops.

Excellent value for the money
Mine is an earlier shiny finish version with the red SD band. Very reasonably priced, given the competition. Very light and fairly compact for it's focal length and aperture. Can be hand held for short periods. Very good / usable image quality at f2.8. Better IQ at f4. Best f5.6-8. Good control of color fringing. IQ not quite as good as my Canon "white lenses", esp. wide open. The Tokina design (which has "SD" glass) is from the late 80s with tweeks along the way, so it cannot be expected to be as good as a more recent or more expensive designs. Autofocus reasonably fast (but probably not fast enough for some sports), and a little noisy. Manual focus ring turns during AF, but is recessed a bit so touching it can be avoided once you get used to holding the lens. This lens is 0.7 to 1.7 lbs lighter than the alternative - don't underestimate the benefit of a light lens, as you'll be more inclined to bring it along. And a lens that's not brought is like no lens at all.
