A classic that is both practical and historical
How did the masters of the preeminent American machine-tool world of the the first half of the twentieth century measure down to millionths of an inch? This is the book that tells you, and also explains what some of the machines you see on ebay do, and why they continue to work so well.
Highly recommended if you like this sort of thing!

Not as good as everyone claims

It's the must-have text in the field.
This is the classic text. Stellar writing, very clear, by an expert. The 1991 edition still covers most of the field. I'll read it and if I have further interest, I'll get the newer version.
