Casino Royale: the '60s version
My husband remembers the "original" Casino Royale from his misspent youth, and after seeing the "new" one, he wished that he could see the old one again. I found a DVD copy of it on eBay, and with his birthday coming up (for the guy who typically "has everything," or at least buys whatever he wants) this was a great opportunity to get him something that he not only wanted but had no idea was available. He was very surprised and excited to open the package and find a movie that was an old favorite. The DVD quality is beautiful, most likely remastered from an original print, and while I don't quite "get it," since I've never been a Bond fan, he thinks it's wonderful...since it's his gift, that's all that matters, right?

Tacky the Penguin Doll ... tacky as he wants to be!
This was a birthday gift for my husband, a Hawaiian shirt-wearing, Linux-using (which uses a penguin as its mascot), nonconformist -- just like Tacky! My husband saw the dolls avertised on eBay and reminded me more than once "My birthday is comcing up," but he didn't think he'd actually get one!
The critter is cute and well-made (Hawaiian shirt and all), and it catches the essence of Tacky, right from the pages of the book. Tacky now resides on a computer monitor, not an iceberg, which probably suits him just fine.
