a classic must-have
I have been a Rolling Stones fan since I can remember, and one of the first bands I was intriqued by in the early seventie's, when I was a mere five year old. The first time viewing this live concert movie, I thought that, because of all the hype about the Stones being rather sloppy during the time period, I thought that there were some missed cues, some verse's that were not done correctly. But still, what stood out were some of their more countryfied tunes - Dead Flowers, Tumbling Dice, and SWeet Virginia. The second time I watched this concert movie, I became as intriuged as I had way, way back. So I decided to take it over to my fellow musician's house and watch it again. Now it all kicked in: They were "tight", and that is just a very short way of giving a back-handed compliment. However, in this case, no, it is true - in this flim the Stones are dead-on, all the arrangements are correct and the band really has it going. Perhaps most astounding is the total lack of commercialism and extravegant lighting. It is dark, gritty, the camera work is totally unpretentious and wayward. But this is what, in my mind, truly captures the essence of any performance, whether it be by a politician, a comedian, or the Greatest Rock Band in the World, on the verge of succumbing the reins to the up-and-coming "younger" generation's bands. In the end, as usual, you always get the feeling that The Rolling Stones give you your money's worth. What an accomplishment to be able to convey that feeling via a DVD released almost forty years after the fact.

For ten bucks, this was a steal.
Since having given up on over-paying for either satellite or cable television, watching most of my favorite videos and t.v. shows on YouTube, yet missing the comfort of playing couch-potato and zoning out to some REAL entertainment, I ran across this "Fan Favorites" boxed-set of "The Twilight Zone". Any fan of this show does not need to reveal any bias in writing a review because, in my opinion, this classic and long-lived t.v. series was designed to be subtle and powerful in its story-telling. I'm not an aficionado, but I read much about Rod Serling and the other creative forces behind the show, way way back when I was a kid. And it was not difficult to easily sit on the couch and watch the first three episodes from Disc 1: 1) Night Of The Meek 2) The Invaders 3) Nothing In The Dark All I can say is "wow". Great writing, fantastic and ahead-of-its-time production, and what a treat to see a very young Robert Redford turn in a very good portrayal as a wounded cop (aka The Grim Reaper) in Nothing In The Dark. Nothing these days comes close so far as true suspense, and I'm glad to be reminded that watching a t.v. show can be entertaining without making me feel like I'm being clobbered over the head with obnoxiousness.
