Nach dem Eric Clapton mitte der 60er die Yardbirds verlassen hatte, weil sie ihm zu kommerziell wurden, schloss er sich den Bluesbreakers um John Mayall an. In John Mayall fand er eine Art Vaterfigur mit der er seiner Leidenschaft, den Blues, wieder richtig fröhnen konnte. Zusammen mit Hughie Flint an den Drums und John McVie am Bass war diese Besetztung eine der Besten der Bluesbreakers. Bei "Ramblin' on my mind" ist Clapton auch das erste mal als Sänger in Erscheinung getreten, ein Stück, dass er auch heute noch gern live spielt.
