I will try to make this review as exhaustive as possible to highlight the benefits and the downfalls of using it,the good and the bad features at the same time. My personal advice for a potential buyer:Only the extreme need to apply, you will also need serious knowledge about CPU overclocking and Asus Bioses in particular! It is definitely not for the general PC user with average skills at handling computers! But this is an incredibly niche market,as there are very few of us who really need these sorts of extreme overclocking capabilities. This isn't a mass-market board, this is a board to put into high-end, prebuilt,pre-overclocked systems worth thousands. If you want the X58 overclockers's board, the Rampage III Extreme is where it's at,in the top five for sure! Pluses: +Lots of neat stuff here,SATA 3!USB 3.0!!Bluetooth to OC from your smart phone! They loaded all kinds of toys on this board.Look of the board is great. The Layout is almost like a perfect work of art. +Almost anything you wish in the X58 platform, perfect for large 24GB RAM configurations or liquid cooled highend systems!Perfect for the 24GB sets of Ripjaws or Mushkin RAM! +BIOS has an Auto Overclock feature. You can select "Auto" mode,i7-965 Extreme (3.33GHz) and i7-Crazy (3.7GHz).In testing I was able to get my i7-960 from 3.2GHz to 3.9GHz and it was stable.Make sure you have enough cooling though,or else this could be dangerously hot! +Motherboard has two CPU 8-pin power connections, which made boosting my overclock from the automatic 3.9 to 4.35 very stable and easy to do. +PCIe x16 slots 1 and 3 run at full x16 even in SLI.It's not often a board can do that these days. +I/O panel is flooded with ports including the ROG Bluetooth which can be used as any other USB Bluetooth would be.USB 3.0 is great and being x58 it is full speed. +MemOK!is a really nice feature. +My board had come with the Bios 1102 and I haven't had any issues as of yet so Asus must have fixed some of the problems that were addressed in the forums. But hey, when you have circuitry this complex stuff happens you can't explain it no matter how much testing a company does, because you can't anticipate human error.New Bios+ +Great SATA support for Hard drives, Decklink Blackmagic Disk Speed Test returned a sustained 210MB/s for both reads and writes from an installed RAID 0+1 using four 750GB Caviar Black HDDs.Very respectable for Onboard Raid! Minuses: -Poor quality control, very high IOH temperatures and NB temperatures during high overclocks over 3.7Ghz,a lot of DOAs in US -You will ned a BIG Tower Case with some strong case coolers, the chipset cooler must be replaced also, unless you want to see 80-90 Celsius in a year! -Only one USB internal header -No quad SLI support, here it is gunned down by eVGA -Lots of BSODs with SATA3 SSDs,real trouble for +256GB ones like Corsair or Samsung 512GB+;The SATA3 controller is a Marvell chip.Unfortunately Marvell doesn't pass TRIM commands down to SSDs so SATA2 IS A MUST for large SSDs -Quite bad customer support, nothing premium -ASUS's lack of adequate documentation for the non-profi Users -There is no proper SSD suport,The Onboard Intel Matrix RAID Option ROM (NOT driver) version is very old at 8.0 same as on the P6T or R3 gene,You need at least 8.7 to have proper SSD support and 8.9 added more SSD improvements,Gigabyte has 8.9 and works with 10.0 -the price is too high, you will throw it into your PC only if you agree for a real big bang in your wallet!
