I passed on this movie at the theaters, but after borrowing a friend's disc for viewing, I bought my own. That's how much I loved the script and Denzel's acting. I put it up there with my other favs of his: Training Day and Man on Fire. I applaud the photography--a lot of/mostly black and white with plenty of shots of the sky to give it that apocalyptic quality. The only real negative to me was the weak voice track. We follow Eli's quest to deliver the bible to people who can possibly save the world from its current path. Of course he runs into those who would stop him from completing his task, including the very capable Gary Oldman as--what else--his primary nemesis. This is a movie you can watch multiple times and notice something new. And then, of course, there is the debate on the degree of Eli's eyesight. One thing we know, his memory is sharp. That was proven at the end. Put it in your collection.Vollständige Rezension lesen
While it may not be everyone's cup of tea, The Book of Eli takes a look at what could happen after a nuclear war eradicates most of the life on Earth, and different paths the survivors might take. It is a film that shows both the best and worst of human nature, but manages to leave a mostly optimistic message that good does triumph over evil in the end. While there is very little character development in the film, it is well-cast, with Denzel Washington as the enigmatic Eli (on a mission from God) and Gary Oldman, who is on the same mission, but for Satan. There is a plot-twist at the end which most people won't see coming that is similar to the one in the Sixth Sense as far as the shock value. You'll probably find yourself watching the movie a second time, looking for clues that you missed on the first viewing.Vollständige Rezension lesen

It is a most powerful portrayal of a future prophet which has not been advertised well at all. I can see people thinking the movie is anti-christian or even anti-religious or just a volcano spewing forth violence when it is not. All should see this movie and discuss it deeper meanings,it is just wonderful.Kudos to Denzel Washington and the entire cast, especially the character Eli's female sidekick found near the end of his life and her,the sidekick's,beautiful and profound, blind mother! The movie is a reaffirmation of the power of being chosen by the Lord, the highest honor and responsibility anyone can ever have. Happy Holidays all, phil603
The movie itself is excellent and is why I ordered it. The video quality of this blu ray recording however is deplorable! Looks like a pirated rendition of the movie. The satellite broadcast version is far superior. Very disappointing!
