The Pentax LX was a beautifully designed and executed camera which sold in limited numbers and failed to dent the Nikon/Canon stranglehold on professional small format photography. Despite quality construction and attention to detail it has proved less than reliable over time and and is expensive to service or repair. Parts are increasingly scarce and prices for clean working cameras are high, especially in the Far East where many examples surface. The Pentax MX is a better buy, particularly if you intend to use the camera.
If you want a good, reliable pro level film camera with manual focus and a state of art mechanical-electrical combo shutter this is the one to buy. It has interchangeable viewfinder, depth of field preview button and mirror lock up. Lenses are plenty on the second hand market so for little money you can have a whole range of them. Although the camera is becoming more expensive it is well worth its price.
Bought one of these new in 1987. Best most intuitive camera I ever had. I have used Canon AF & digital, Nikon AF & Digital since then but always felt I wanted to get back to the LX. It has all the automation you ever NEED and build quality beyond the dreams of DSLR makers today. Never should have sold my first one. Had this one for 3 weeks, done 5 x 36 exp films loving every minute.
