This book reminded me of a high school biology book, consisting more of definitions rather than practical application. This book defines what different types of engine management ecu setting are, like alpha-n, speed density, and mass air flow, but doesn't actually get into details about tuning. It doesn't give instructions on what a tuner needs to have installed on a vehicle to actually create fuel lookup tables, calculate volumetric efficiency of an engine, and do base fuel mapping. Basic introduction to definitions and concepts, but there are numerous, free online resources that do a better job of explaining why tuners would choose one ecu configuration over another. Not a book for someone trying to actually learn how to tune their car from the ground up.

The author did a fair job in describing what really goes on when a car runs but the content quickly moves into some very heavy stuff. This is a good book for those who are into serious performance machines and want to get their feet wet. For the average person who want's to tweak their 2000 or newer car to get better mileage and performance without a lot of cost then this is way over the top for that. There is a lot of discussion about superchargers and other high performance stuff that would cost a fortune for the average tinkerer. I was hoping for more details on what sensors are used how are they calibrated and what equipment do I use to read and change these to something that won't harm the car but still get better performance in the area that I drive. Most cars have this goldie locks setting which is good for about any condition but it does it while sacrificing performance. Little things like cooling the intake air or getting laminar air flow or upgrading to better O2 sensors might be more helpful.Vollständige Rezension lesen
Engine Management is a critical part of the design and development process. Specifically, monitoring and controlling key elements of engine operation is vital to establishing optimum engine performance. Simple as that.

Heavily oriented to naturally aspirated cars. For those of you looking to learn about forced induction this book will show you some foundation but leave many un answered questions. Aside from that everyone can walk away from this book with something new. This is great for the person who is just starting to learn how to tune or for the person who has been tuning and is looking for a refresher course. If your getting into engine management you need to put this at the top of your list to read...
