Sonic Riders is a hard game, not entirely because of the levels or the concept, but because of the sometimes frustrating gameplay. It feels so static, so fake. When I started playing it, I felt that it would be a fun challenge, but by the time I completed it I realized all I had done was got a grip on should-be trivial things such as steering or jumping. This game also doesn’t hold its own as a Sonic game due to how slow it seemed. Let’s be honest: Sonic the Hedgehog is all about speed, that’s what fans love about it. But this game was kind of slow in its levels, I mean like there was no sense of speed at all. So basically the two main targets for this game (Racing game fans and Sonic fans) will sorely be disappointed, the former for lack of control and frustrating gameplay, and the latter for lack of speed. As for me personally though, I kinda enjoyed it. It was a fun challenge and I really felt good by the time I actually beat it. :DVollständige Rezension lesen

Y'know how there are games like Dark Souls and Super Meat Boy, which are specifically DESIGNED to make you angry? Well this is one of those types of games, but it clearly wasn't developer intended. One slip up could cost you a race, and it's absolutely crazy. Track layouts are well designed and memorable, and the controls are near perfect, with only the slightest control lag every once in a while. The CG cutscenes are absolutely beautiful, even matching Pixar quality (except Tails's model), and the in-engine cutscenes are cartoony and silly, which is just how I like my Sonic. There are bits where it takes itself too seriously (apparently, bird people can't fly because their ancestors angered the gods?), but overall, the game takes on a fun mood, even having Amy chase Sonic around with a hammer at one point in good old Tom & Jerry fashion. Not to mention, there's tons of content, and the game's intense difficulty will give you hours of fun. Or pure, unfiltered rage. Probably rage. The strange thing is, this feels like it was going to be an arcade game at one point. Take out the story mode and quicktime events, make your air gauge a time limit, and make the control scheme one of those snowboarding type machines, and you have an arcade hit. There's even a tutorial movie at the title screen that plays if you don't touch anything. A quirky little game that's great for any masochist's GameCube collection, I give this game 5 poorly voiced bird people out of 7.Vollständige Rezension lesen

Action! Speed! And much more! This Sonic racing game has it all: sweet graphics in extreme environments, tons of playable characters who you can customize with special "Extreme Gear" boards and shoes --- and with multiple modes (Story, Mission, Time Attack, etc.) it has a high degree of re-playability. For newer Sonic fans of shows like Sonic X (the same voice actors lend their voices for Sonic Riders) and games like Sonic Heroes and Shadow the Hedgehog, this is a perfect game that flows the same way story-wise as they do. Older, "true blue" Sonic fans may be annoyed by the new Babylon Rogue characters (Wave the Swallow, Jet the Hawk and Storm the Albatross) and the plot for the two story modes (there's a "Heroes" storyline and a seperate "Rogues" one) - as they don't follow some of the more traditional plots in the earlier Sonic games. The biggest complaint I've heard in the community is how Wave is treated as smarter than Tails and Dr. Eggman - though in the guide it clearly states that her genius is limited to "Extreme Gear." Probably the best point this game has going for it is the unique way in which you race. Not only do you get to race on the boards, but you have to keep your "air guage" filled - and one way you do that is by doing tricks off ramps and rails. You can also "ride" the turbulence of other players - which makes for awesome moves and last-second races to the finish line. The controls are a bit complex at first, but once you do a few races, you get the hang of it. The hardest thing is probably making a good landing after doing tricks. Keeping your air guage full at times can be difficult as well - but what's a racing game without some challenge to it? I haven't played the multiplayer mode yet, but it promises to be a lot of fun as well. If nothing else, get the game for the awesome eye candy. The cut scenes and especially the anime-esque opener are fun to watch again and again. The soundtrack is also upbeat and catchy. I find myself singing it without realizing it. It's not the best racing game out there, but it sure is a lot of fun! And the interesting controls and game play make it unique among most racing games. If you've got the money to spend and you love that speedy blue hedgehog, go for it!Vollständige Rezension lesen
I've always been a big fan of sonic when I was growing up, and because of that I had a strong opinion of this game at first I thought it would be bad because it wasn't a normal sonic game but when I finally put the game in to try it my self it easy became one of the more competitive sonic games I've ever played, all the base machines in the game just work so good. I'll stop my rant there and say this game deserve a 10/10.
