If there had been more depth to the alien/human interaction/conflict this would be a killer movie. As it is, it's still a good retake and has some cool references to the original Robotech trilogy. Worth watching if you're a fan no doubt.

While Macross was original, full of decent music, with a decent original plot, this movie is a good example of how sequels can suck big time. The plot is absurdly juvenile, as though it was written for 5-year olds. Really, let's have two testosterone-pumped immature "men" test new equipment and spend all their time trying to lamely outdo each other to prove who is the better test pilot of transformers. Really dumb. The dialogue is really lame, and the animation nothing special, despite the hype. At various times, the one character actually brags about the awards he got in High School, over and over, as if it matters. He is supposed to be an experienced, expert test pilot, and not a High School senior. The other character is a corny, two-dimensional stereotype, at best. This movie even seems to have been written by someone no older than 12. Complete waste of time.Vollständige Rezension lesen
The Macross universe is known for three things - transforming aircraft, music woven into the plot, and love triangles - and Macross Plus is no exception. The musical background is supplied by the best in the business - Yoko Kanno (honestly, her work alone makes this an anime worth watching). In addition, the animation is of superior quality. The artwork (all done by hand) is better than most CGI attempts to date. The story follows the competition between Isamu Dyson and Guld Bowman - high school friends turned romantic rivals turned bitter enemies - and the burgeoning career of Myung Lone as the producer for the hottest pop star in the universe - an artificial intelligence named Sharon Apple. Tensions among the three remain high throughout the series, often blossoming into all out brawls between the two hotheaded pilots. The past is gradually revealed through brief flashbacks as repressed memories surface. The animation is stunningly beautiful. The musical score is amazing. The only downside is that there are only four episodes - the writers simply didn't have time to develop the complex plot characteristic of other Macross series.Vollständige Rezension lesen

This is my very first ebay purchase, so I was really ecstatic to unbox it. The movie is in four parts and its two parts in one dvd. The story has drama that unfolds in the end, a lot of mecha action and a little bit of humor. Although sometimes the humor doesn't translate as well as it should. Being asian, I can relate to the humor of what they were trying to say. For some people the humor might not be as obvious. All in all, the dvd set is a great buy.
